Man, I'd love one of these as they clock so great but need a quad for crunching.

Is it? Care to show me some links? When i first got my e8400, people were struggling to maintain a stable 4.3ghz on air.

May I ask why you're not at 4.5ghz?

Probably because he does not want to kill his cpu with all those volts...

And there you have it. I can do some suicide runs at 1.6v and call it stable and post on the intern3ts if I wanted to. Thing is, I have to keep this chip for more than a couple months (when I get it that is).

But anyway, congrats on the 4.5Ghz shots...again.

all E8400 and E8500 I had could do much more than 4500mhz on air, thats easy

stable? if I apply so much volts as you yes, but dont think that your cpu will have a long life

What's all this "fuzz" about "all air", and "great work"?

What is so great about mounting a CPU, feed it *lotsa* juice, well over the Intel specs, and let it "rip"?

It takes a little courage to take the "risk" to run a E8n00 on 1.6++ 24/7, running Prime/Occt/FAH, but the CPU is pretty cheap so why not?

Sorry.. could not resist.. no creds from me other than saying:

    Congrats with a nice CPU/chip.

I respect everyone's knowledge and input, however:

I know lots of people that use 1.6v to achieve +4ghz clocks and I truely believe that as long as the temps are in safe zone, the CPU will last.

Prime is a different story, 70's definately isn't safe but on average load with games, it doesn't even hit 60c.

I guess time will tell. in 3-4 months time, i'll re-post and see if my cpu has died or not

sure achieving these clocks on air is easy, but with stability? c'mon guys...

I'm proud of the Scythe Orchi either way and I wouldn't have been able to achieve this on my old 9500LED

believe me, with that voltage I had an E8400 that could do more 100/150mhz stable on air, but it was damn hot..

about lots of people using 1.6vcore to get 4ghz, I'm not that sure, all my chips needed from 1.24 to 1.28vcore, but maybe you were talking about 65nm.

Heh, the people that are doing this on air fall into 2 categories...

    1. Benchmarking people doing bench runs at high voltage/clocks, then backing it down (significantly) for 24/7 use.
    2. Those that believe that a voltage ~.5 over stock is "ok" for their chip only to likely have it die on them within a year b/c they dont listen to the ubiquitous(sp?) wisdom of XS.

Interesting link, WAY less volts, less clock speed, same temp? : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=178912

Chip will die with those volts on aircooling. Electromigration is going to take care of your chip soon... I've degraded my Opty 144@2.8GHz @ 1.71V (never exceeded 42°C on the core) after half a year, every day i could OC less untill it was good only for 2GHz...
