Just in case anyone is interested in knowing, my 3ware 9650SE Raid card works with the 4010 bios. When I first flashed the bios and rebooted, I had a dead system (which scared me a little bit). I turned off the system, unplugged the power, reset cmos, and switched my RAID card to the top PCI-E Slot (where I normally put my graphics card) and put my graphics card on the bottom slot. Viola! It posted and I have no issues.

It does not post with the raid card in the bottom PCI-E.

Hi, im a bit curious if everyone else has my issue.

Does everyones NB and SB leds briefly flash red before going back to normal when restarting/turning on their systems? CPU and Memory leds stay green throughout.

I was curious. What kind of overclocks are people able to get on this mobo with a Q6600 G0?

i've got 2 rampage, one with a q6600 and the other with a q6700. both are running 3.6 ghz (450x8) and both can run up to 500 fsb (with x7 multi) very easily, but temps are stopping me from get higher clock

same here. I run my G0 at 3.45ghz 24/7 at 1.4375v in bios which equates to ~ 1.42v with LLC. Temps are the holding back factor especially since it gets hot here in AU in summer, plenty of headroom for voltage left. 55-58C full load on all cores is high enough for everyday stuff. I can run 3.6 but temps aren't manageable under 100% load for long periods.

Could someone do a quick check for me?

Sorry for being a bother, but I would like to know if this is any indication of an impending problem since my last board wouldn't boot and every LED stayed lit up to red.

    Same here...

    1) When restarting/shutting off/turning on system, NB and SB LEDs briefly flash red then go back to green.

    2) CPU and Memory LEDs stay green with CPU LED briefly turning off then staying on.
Generally just lurk, since I know how to use search there is not much point in me asking the same thing others have already asked over 100 times...

cOULD JUST be safety implementation by ASUS to prevent instaneous voltage spikes damaging the NB or SB when they are switched on and off. Perhaps they aren't as resilient to overshoot as CPUs or RAM dimms are. If you spike the SB too high, it would most likely replicate the overshoot spike across to the output reference voltage for SATA devices which could toast a controller on any of your drives. Way uncool. CPU and Memory data are both volatile and thus overshooting at worst might wipe volatile CMOS data, which isn't the end of the world at worst.

I figure that when the system starts up, a brief "spike" occurs at the NB and SB which reaches red LED levels before the board is able to detect proper voltage settings and bring it back down to green.

This does not seem like a safe way to handle voltages IMO and may damage the board in the long run.

Are you or anyone else experiencing similar LED bahavior?

Instaneous voltage is controlled by the vrm pull down circuitry. Asus implementation of load line calibration which is not Intel specification may be the reason they use this method as a safety net for overshoot by design specs.

So you have similar LED behavior on your board as well?

Probably, I've never really taken much notice of the LED behaviour to tell you the truth. I had nearly completely forgot that the board had them! I suppose they have some usefulness for open benching, but for case use I can't even see them without taking the effort to open my case up. That involves unplugging the fan door and manuveuring it for visual access since it sits in the space between my desk and the wall with a shelf on top! I'll try and have a look later today to see what mine does. I need to give the case a vacuum for dust anyway.

Thanks for taking the time to check, greatly appreciate it. I had a bad experience with my first board (no boot) where all the LEDs remained red.

I think you guys are over reacting; this thing's been there since day one. Remember that Asus implemented color-coding LEDs to indicate voltages across the spectrum of lights; when the board is powered up at first, all the lights come on, then depending on what voltages you're running, the board switches to that color code; it is just an indicator, and not representative of the current going through your components. Otherwise, the question is what particular voltage range is represented by red/gold/green? It is just a delayed effect, while the bios detects power imput and adjusts regulators. This detection and adjustment needs to happen.

Thanks for the explanation. You are correct that the LEDs display all 3 colors before switching back to the proper color setting.

However when rebooting, only my memory LEDs remain green (no gold/red display) while the NB and SB flash all 3 colors.

I would still like to know if my board is consistent with others. No harm in checking!

    0410 bios is looking good.

    Have running q9450 @3.6 (in bios: 1.3125 vcore (1.3 real), 1.56 cpu pll, 1.55 nb, fsb term 1.4, cpu gtl 0.67x) - OCCT 1 hour stable + prime25 10hours stable (large FFTs).

Will be working on lowering volts where possible. Any ideas where to start?

    Edit.
Currently testing: 1.29375 vcore (1.28 real), 1.56 cpu pll, 1.49 nb (1.5 in everest), fsb term 1.34 (1.3 in everest), gtl 0.67x)

    Edit2.

Alright, here is what I have achieved today:

OCCT stable, MemTest 1 full run - no errors. Overnight Prime25 is coming. Tell me what you think.

    Settings in bios:
1.29375 vcore, 1.56 cpu pll, 1.49 nb, 2.02 DRAM, fsb term 1.36, cpu gtl 0.67x.

    Happy.

Ok could somebody give me a kick in the right direction to get 3.8 or more?
This is a SS from my 3.6 OC (FSB 424, 8.5 multi), only things what are changed are the VCore (1.30625V) and the NB V (1.43V) for my 3.7 stable OC.

I already tried to raise the VCore to 1.34 ish ,the NB to 1.49V and the FSB termination towards 1.24V to try to get 3.8 (FSB 448, 8.5 multi).
Without succes, OCCT failed within 2 minutes.
I know im running pretty safe voltages trough everything and i dont really want to push it so what can be tryed best first?
    Thanks in advance.

I little more FSBT is required. Plus some vcore perhaps. CPU GTL to 63, NB GTL to 67. A little more NBv might be required too. Start with the GTLs then the FSBT.

Does anyone know how to disable that hard drive LED just above sata 1 and 2? It's bright and catches my eye all the time which can be distracting.

Buy a X2 it will cover the led
Nah to be serious, i think you cant disable it.
Blind it with a marker you can always clean it or just put the MB in a case

    @ sofarfrome

THX for the info ill try that this weekend when i have a bit more time.
Just installed a TRUE with dual S-Flex's and so far im pretty happy with it so the clocks finally can go up
BTW are these temps any good on air??
With my old cooler i never completed a IBT run because the temps went above 71c within three seconds.

Pretty sure the temps will go above the 71c with higher clocks but i will only run Prime after a higher OC.

Well the Q9400 that I have been using seems to oc as good as or a little better than the Q6600 cpu's. Tomorrow I will finally have my hands on a Q9650 that I have been saving for. I am hoping it will be my first cpu to hit 4GHZ. I will be running it on this rampage mobo. I will let you know how it goes. So far I am very pleased with this mobo.

what is the average fsb that I should expect on air with a dual core?

how about with a quad core?

how good is the crossfire performance compared to a p45 motherboard (like p5q deluxe) using 2 4850s?

is the 16-phase on the p5q deluxe better for a higher cpu overclock?
