    Thanks for the reply. I had a hard time believing it was my PSU.. EXCEPT maybe if it was my 5v or 3.3v rails. Since Crysis and Prime95 wasn't a problem and both the CPU and GPU draw their power from the 12v rails i would think the 12v rails doesn't have any problems. But MAYBE some part of the GFX card (that has something to do with video overlay) gets it's power from the PCI-E slot and MAYBE that power is drawn from the 3.3v or 5v rails.
    But when i started comparing PSU specs the one i have right now has 'amazing' strong 3.3v and 5v rails. 34A for both (not combined). 9 out of the 10 newer and heavier PSUs i compared it with have (quite a bit) lower specs. Of course that does mean the 12v specs for my PSU are kind of low compared to even some 550w or even 500w PSU. But like i said before, i'm pretty sure my 12v isn't the problem, and since 3,3v and 5v pretty much can't be the problem either, my only conclusion can be that it's not my PSU. Of course i wont know for sure untill i either solve the problem some other way or test another PSU, but that would cost be about 90-100 euros. So i'm hoping for a cheaper solution. :P

    I have tried Vista x84 and XP x64 both with the latest drivers (unless a new one was released in the last 7 days) and i have the problem with both OS's. So i guess that does make the driver a lill more unlikely, but i'm going to try a couple of older drivers to be sure. I might also give nVidia PureVideo a try.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    BTW: i have re-installed the same drivers a couple of times. When i changed the BIOS of the GFX card i also re-installed the drivers.

    Are there any inherent benefits going from RF308 to RF403? I just got a Rampage to replace my Maximus and have had a very good experience with 308 so far.

    Anyone knows a good passive cooler for the SB of ASUS Rampage?

    I was thinking in the Enzotech CNB-S1L, but David Liang from Enzotech said:

    "A little Dremel Tool work will be needed to reduce the pin-to-pin fastening distance to the 53mm needed."

    No, it should fit fine, and I will be using it as well. See here:

    You could be experiencing issues due to changing the video BIOS. As far as OSes go, so far, I've had zero issues with Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1

    In fact, I just scrapped XP this past weekend and did a clean install of Vista and so far, all the software and hardware I have works

    Let me rephrase. I've been running Vista Ultimate 64-bit for over a year and zero issues. My HP laptop that I got last summer had Vista Home Premium 32-bit which was formatted at least once a month until December when I finally decided to install 64-bit flavor. Go figure, ZERO ISSUES AND INSTABILITY! Anyways, I need to get back to overclocking on this board. For me, the GTLRef is where it's at... at least I think. I find it stupid that I need 1.45V to do 4.0 GHz. 1.40V is the highest I'll go on this CPU. If I was running water, I'm sure I'd be using less voltage, but I tried water last time on my X3220 G0.... same overclock, just 10C difference. X3220 G0 @ 3.92 GHz with 1.70V = 65C with H20. X3220 G0 @ 3.92 GHz with 1.70V = 77C with TRUE120 + Scythe S-Flex @ ~1300 RPM

    Anyways... back to work for me

    By the way, that X3220 overclock was done on the rig 'as is' in my sig. The only difference is I was using it for benching a while back and it had 4 x 1 GB sticks @ 1000 MHz and had the PC Power and Cooling 750 WATT and the HD 3870X2.

    Edit: Crucial Ballistix Tracers 1 GB modules rated for 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2V.... yea, one of the sticks decided to crap out on me after 4 months. Also, they run EXTREMELY HOT! I took a temperature gun and measured the tmeps.... 75C with dual F@H SMP clients They also discolored the RAM slots on the motherboard

    My Ballistix actually overheat after 24 hours of heavy use. I mounted an AMD Athlon fan on them (have to use up those AMD parts somehow) and they are now cool to the touch and no issues.

    I just downgraded from XP x64 to Vista 64 because I will need it for CFX. So far, it has broken support for ATITool, and breaks support for my USB mouse polling rate changer due to driver signing, and it does not work with my paid copy of diskeeper 2007. So far, no positives over XP x64.

    lol. I have AMD fans all over the place.

    BTW. My new board should be here Friday. The lady on the phone said that they "unable to repair it" and are sending me a new one. I sent it out a week ago last Friday, so it is a total of two weeks for the RMA. Not bad.

    Asus should get an award for the slowest website of a tech company. You would think with all those nerds and computer components lying around, they would have a better server.

    I run 4 x 2 GB G. Skill DDR2 1000 @ 5-5-5-15 with 2.1V and have the OCZ Ram cooler on it... seems to be fine and stable

    As far as my other rig with the Crucial Ballistix Tracers, I have an Antec Spot Cool fan blowing on them and am just waiting for them to die as well

    I run 4x2GB of the G.Skill DDR2 1066 RAM at DDR2 1103 at 5-5-5-15-2T @ 2.1v, with no additional cooling fully stable. The RAM does get quite hot to the touch, but that doesn't stop it from being 100% stable.

    Can you post the timings in bios and an everest bench? I wonder how much I would get from 1066 PL5.

    Asus Rampage with E8500 @ 4.2GHz Reboot/Hibernation Issue

    Hi,

    I recently built my new PC with Asus Rampage/E8500/2Gx2 G Skill DDR2 1066. This combination provides one of the most pleasant new-build experience mostly come from Rampage's quality and flexibility.

    As expected, reaching 4GHz is quite straight forward. However, extending to 4.2GHz brought issues most relating to reboot and hibernation.

    1. The PC sometimes had to boot or reboot 2 times to got into Windows.
    2. Sometimes fail to restart from hibernation (right before windows show up).
    3. Super Pi (1M?) tends to crash the PC right after restart from hibernation.

    The new PC is very stable at 4.2GHz and passed Orthos (CPU and RAM stress) , Super Pi 32M, PCMark and 3DMark when it boots successfully.

    My BIOS setup:

    FSB = 443MHz
    Multiplier = 9.5
    FSB Strap = 333 MHz
    DDR2= 1063

    CPU Volt = 1.387V (BIOS) / 1.368V (CPUID)
    CPU PLL = Auto
    NB = 1.55V
    SB = Lowest Volt from BIOS
    RAM Volt = 2.04V (As suggested by G Skill)
    Loadline Calibration (LLC) = Enabled*
    AI Clock Twister = Auto*
    CPU GTL = Auto
    NB GTL = Auto

    RAM Timing = Auto (As suggested by G Skill)

    I know many people suggest to disable LLC. I found that, by disabling LLC, I had to increase CPU voltage by ~0.04V but I see no difference in terms of stability since my machine never crash when it is idle. There I decided to keep LLC enabled.

    AI Clock Twister affects stability a lot. When I set it to "Strong", the chance of failing reboot is higher than "Light".

    Any suggestions? The SuperPi(1M)-after-hibernation crash actually puzzles me the most. It (seems) indicated some devices may are not initialized properly after restart.

    Thanks in advance!

    My RAM timings and settings in the BIOS are all stock/default other than the voltage.

    What is everest?

    Everest is a program, that can read temps, mobo, and whole bunch of other things.

    I give up - it's impossible for me to get this board stable even at stock speeds and can't figure out where I have a problem. BSOD’s usually memory oriented error codes

    Specs:
    Rampage formula – Obviously BIOS 0219 / 0403
    E8500 with TRUE/s-flex 1600
    4x1gb Crucial ballistix pc8500 (single sided) / 2x1gb Crucial ballistix pc8500 (single sided)
    Corsair 750W
    Antec p182 with an extra fan
    MSI nx8800gt

    I have never used any voltages that exceed max recommendation; I’ve always been a great deal below that threshold. The highest voltage ever used on this board is 1.60v on the northbridge from “Auto” setting in bios with 4 sticks of Crucial ballistix (single side).

    It just randomly crashes no matter what I do and in the name of troubleshooting. I’ve declocked the cpu E8500 @ 6x333, run the 4x1gb crucial ballistix at their default rated speed and left the system overnight and it still manages to crash. I’ve even loosened the timings a tad.

    Declocked temps and voltages:
    Cpu never passed 40 degrees (guess though haven’t got a log), 1,192v cpu-z / auto in BIOS (I left it on auto because of the declock)

    CPU PLL = Lowest value BIOS
    NB = 1.45v around 52 degrees
    SB = Lowest value around 44 degrees
    RAM Volt = 2.14v BIOS (around 2.2v windows also tried tweaking the both ways)
    Loadline Calibration (LLC) = Disabled

    Furthermore I’ve tried running with 2x1gb sticks at rated speed and default ddr2, it still crash. I’ve RMA’ed one pair of the Crucial sticks had some trouble with them, but I’m able to run the 4x1gb through memtest for 5 passes without errors (4-5 hours). Getting OCZ ram next week to test in the board to make sure it isn’t the Crucial sticks.

    I’ve tried running with different performance levels 5, 6, 7, 9, 12 and to see if that was my Achilles' heel. I’m out of ideas tried every possible combination to find the culprit in my system CPU, Board, RAM? The crashes just seem so random – Need some new input.

    Note:
    Seriously if it’s the board and I get a new one I’m definitely going to change the stock cooling on the chipset. The connection between the NB and SB is an unhealthy relationship

    I don't think the 8500 Crucial sticks are in the compatibility list for this board..........
    Board: ASUS P7P55D-E
    CPU: i5 750 @ 4Ghz w/Corsair CWCH70
    RAM: 4x 2GB Corsair Dominator sticks at 1600Mhz
    Video: ASUS ATI Radeon 5870
    Case: Lian Li PC75
    PSU: ANTEC 850W
    Linux: Fedora Core 14 x86_64
    Windows: Windows 7 Pro x64 for the odd game.
