Asus plans EAH3850 Trinity with 3 GPUs

Update: Asus let us know they haven’t decided the amount of memory per MXM module yet, we will get final specs later

"Muropaketti.com got first pictures of Asus EAH3850 Trinity graphics card which is equipped with three 55 nm RV670 GPUs. Asus engineers have managed to build this proof of concept using MXM graphics modules from notebooks and AMD’s CrossFireX technology. All three MXM modules include RV670 GPU and not decided amount of memory (likely 512 MB).

Two of the modules are located on back side of the PCB and the third one is on the front side. All GPUs are cooled with heatpipes which are routed to rear of the card and attached to separate liquid cooling solution. PCB has an additional 8-pin PCI Express power connector and the card features four DVI display connectors. Currently there are no information about the clockspeeds or availability. All we know so far is that the card actually works."

    Great idea,

    hope that it scales good.

    To be a professional noob/idiot
    * Default factory speed is for noobs.
    * Everything must go above the speed that the factory consider safe.
    * Everything for more performance
    * Everything fits, and everything can be broken.
    * Most problems can be fixed by adding a volt or two.
    * Post things in your signature that makes no sense at all.

if they would go for a proper wc setup they could probably do the same with 4x 3870 chips...

the concept is interesting, but the real product value? about zero, why? It most likely wont stand a chance against 2x 3870 or a 3870x2 while taking up more space than either of them.

WOULD BE MORE IMPRESSIVE WTIH 3870 BINNED gpus AND 512mb per core.

6way crossfire might be good for benchers though.

Sampsa, you know as well as I do, that they haven't decided whether they will release it or not

I still agree that it's a cool design though

I really do hope this bugger gets released without or with one MXM-Module (or at all...). this way we could choose which graphic we want to use and could upgrade easily when more power is needed.

I'd watercool it differently though. the cooling sucks imho. why didn't they make a typical w/c-block? this design is very inefficient...

hopefully ASUS will offer MXM-Modules in the retail-market as well.

I'd buy one if it was available! I was looking forward to buying the graphic card MSI presented in 2006 with two MXM-Modules, but it never came to live :/

€: damn! I just noticed it's to high to fit into my V600B. the reservoir is in the way...

TBH I can't see this card selling, unless it's priced very well.

at least the last thing could change if ASUS wanted to sell this graphic card. or do you think ASUS would be that stupid?

Probably a "because we can" kinda of deal.

Looks interesting enough though. I still want to see benches and whatnot.

Hooray Asus engineers, but let it remain a prototype for future high-end products, this won't sell...

The Leadtek Leviathan Ultra had a wc solution and didn't sell well...this is even worse on the space, and TBH most people would probably rather have a 9800GX2 unless, like I said, this was priced reasonably.

Didn't MSI already do this kind of stuff a few years ago with MXM modules to demonstrate their know how, haven't seen such a board ever on the market... if we get numbers on this card then it would be nice... awaiting further news... this card is oriented at which crowd ?
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree
