    i've been keeping my system on over night instead of shutting it off, for a lil over a month now i've been getting projects that take longer and my points/projects seems to have gone down a lot and i need to crunch 24/7 to keep up with what i was doing 15/7.

    Damn! Only 10K away? Bahhh.
    Still, I'm mighty happy with us being over 5 mill most days. Very strong, very nice!

    I'm expecting a quad arriving tomorrow. Maybe. With another perhaps a few days behind it.
    So that will help, some.

    ~~~~
    The cruncher I just posted in the "Pics of your Farm" thread got taken down today to redo the TRUE, and a few other things. I was getting very high temps on Core(s) 0 and 1.
    So I redid the mount and this time instead of putting cardboard between the bracket and the HS I used a washer that I superglued to the bracket. I went with Shin Etsu instead of MX-2, as well. So, I'm very interested in seeing how the temps look when I get it back up in a little bit. This was my fastest machine at one point and I'd like to get it back "up there".
    I also mounted an eSata bracket to the front panel, and am moving my soundcard into this rig. I took a few more pics of it and will post them in that thread.
    This will be my "main rig" in the back of the house.
    Have you lapped any of the TRUE's you use? I have 2, both lapped, one has a washer glued to the bracket also. The other is the newer version and doesn't need it to be tight. But both of the them had a very rounded base. Lapping gave me about a 5 dergree drop across all cores. They are a pain to lap as holding them flat is awkward, but definitely worth it. Also, I have the Xigmatek S1283 cooler on one of my quads, and it performs real well. Just under the TRUE's performance, no need for lapping, and is $26 right now at mwave. You just need to get the bolt through kit as it come with push pins.
    Thanks, what's the recommended grits to go through?
    I want mine to be a flat, mirror-like surface.
    You're right, lapping a TRUE is a major pain. Hard to get a grip, hard to get even pressure across the whole surface. I did one...
    The last three coolers I bought were Tuniq's. Two of them in their boxes, awaiting chips. I've heard the Xigmatek mentioned, just not much. Pretty good, eh? I may have to try one. That is if I ever build another rig...
    ~~
    I'm kinda intrigued by the latest Noctua. Not cause I believe it can beat a TRUE, but does come somewhat close. What I'd really like to try is the version for S771. I have a real crap arrangement on one of my dual Clovers and would love to improve it.
    Since you asked, yes.
    I use 4 grits only. I don't care for mirror finish, only flatness. So you see, 220,400,800 and 1000, along with the surface I work on.
    I tape the paper down this just simplifies things so much
    the thing needs lots of 220 work super convex center and concave outer, some say figure 8 but I like back and forth, rotating the cooler 45 degrees every 15-20 strokes, hold the cooler with only enough pressure to prevent chatter or tipping
    finally ready to start with 800 grit when the plating begins to disappear I make the reference lines so I can visually gauge my flatness as I progress, water on the paper becomes more important at this stage to eliminate chatter
    almost ready for the 1000 so slow, now I wish I did more 220 by this point I am sanding only in one direction, rotating the cooler 180 degrees every 20 or so and being careful to apply even pressure
    wooo hoo finally the 1000 I am pleased with this result
    this is my 'polish' like I mentioned, I don't care about mirror, just flat, clean and cool is ok
    close enough for rock and roll
    I just installed BOINC on my new quad so this will improve my numbers. Running on stock tho. Need to get two more machines up (1x 2.6 P4 & 1x 3.0 P4).
    Also, is 50°c very bad for my quad while boinc is running? I have the fan throttled down as much as I can to recude any noise.
    no 50c is not bad, its not great but its not bad either
    However 40-45c range would be more ideal.
    Everyone's numbers were down. 2CH also did a 'meager' 9M.
    EDIT: That probably is because ESL is dropping in production again.
