You actually managed to kill a Xeon CPU? What did you do, run 1,9V Vcore on the stock cooler and disable Thermal Management?

About the only way I know of to kill one of these tough bastards...

hehe WELL they crapped out but actully it might not be dead....

It was BSEL modded...one of the pins actully worked past the tape and contacted the cpu...it happened while i was Declocking the CPU's. So in turn i thought i fried it...i went to the store to buy a cheap CPU to test the Mobo. But then I saw the QX9775 like more then half off and said F%#K it. When i pulled the Old CPU's out i saw that on one Chip the BSEL tape was damaged.

SO....yes i might have good chips. But since its been 3 days since i have not put the Harpers back in to test. I been crunching on the QX9775 since. They run cooler and faster then the Overclocked E5420's...so its a win/win i guess.

So my plan might get the Asus board you Have (Asus Z7S WS) and build another system off that. Im not going to BSEL this time and run the 667 Fb dimms. Those Harpers BSEL'ed i have ran hot...i have posted about it before..like 60C + on water.

So if i get spare time i can ck to see if they are still good...When they crapped out the Post Number on the board started to do weird stuff...stuff i have not seen before and would not even post to BIO's. I tryed Bio's jumper, New power supply, vid car, memory....i was down to Mobo and CPU's for trouble shooting. Never occured that the BSEL mod was bad...so i changed the CPU and it fixed it...Rig was back up and running....

So from what i saw there is no Historical accounts that i saw about a BSEL mod Killing a Chip...but who knows...anything is Killable.

    Hope that sums it up.

I can almost guarantuee you that your chips are working fine. Anyway, building a 2nd rig is always good
Just don't get a Z7S if you are using 667 Dimms, as you will be limited to FSB400 which can easily be achieved on cheaper and/or more reliable mobos like Supermicro. Just make sure the CPUs are intact, BSEL mod them again properly and let em rip

Even though I'd love to get a screenshot of a QX9775 in a Z7S, enabling the VTT option in Bios to rub it in the face of a certain someone at Assus

Anyways...im trying to get more people to Join our cause...Alot of fast systems out there...just none crunching.

Talking with Movieman at the CES afterparty was all the proof i needed to see this is the team to be on.
