HighTech SF robot dog that WILL make you poop your panties!

    http://gizmodo.com/368651/new-video-...ing-its-spooky

It looks like an actual biological quadruped. Seeing it climb through rubble, snow, jumping over obstacles like a wild goat, and saving a near-fall on iced ground at the last second (fast forward to the middle of the video) defies belief. It feels so "animal" that I almost feel bad when they hit it to demonstrate how it regains balance on its own.
My favourite comment was this: "Imagine two hundred of these bringing peace and democracy to your neighborhood. "

That's quite good indeed. I want to know what it does if it is on its back though. Great idea for future pack mule though

It's loud because of a generator on its back that's powered by a small gas motor.

(as you can see, indoors, when it's powered by the grid, it's quiet)

Looks scary, but pretty cool. I saw it on Future Weapons at Discovery Channel last year.

EDIT: It is not a robot dog, it is actually a robot reindeer.

    That's terrifying.

It can hold quite a bit of weight too...

Wonder how much a small machine gun, ammo, and armor plating would weigh? That thing looks like something straight out of nightmares, could make a beastly "search and destroy" bot. Just let it loose into a forest full of people and wait for the screams!

It only apparently has one weakness... ice! which could probably be fixed with some better feet.

EDIT: watch it jump that "hole" at the end... that's insane. They could make these things small and light so they'd be able to leap much farther... jesus I'm scared now.

    Skynet! It's starting!

Looks pretty cool, though it isn't really fast with climbing the rubble. And like someone asked before, is it autonomous?

Apparently it is autonomous, Darba and all. And rubble and such it can be set to go faster, however they're being safe with theyre toy You see it run and hop? Could do that to rubble.

I've got this horrible mental picture of hundreds of these things with lazers mounted on top of them leaping and bounding through a blown out city. Mercilessly slaughtering thousands of fleeing citizens. I would think it would be a much more efficient way to move than "standard" running. As long as it has some way to map-out/predict where it will land, it would be much easier than calculating every tiny and cumbersome step.

Maybe I watch too much TV.

Somehow I am convinced that while it might end up having weapons, just like that Heli the marnies can use which has missiles it can fly autonomous but it needs a human to tell it to fire.

    Reassuring thought!

You need a power cell like that robot from Red Planet. Something the size of a bear can that can last months.

you guys sure it's no alien?

really increadible how good it could keep the balance, even as it was kicked or walking on ice.

    astonishing!
