    Angry Nvidia Cancels Nvision 2009!!!

    Nvidia cancels NVISION 2009

    Economic decline strikes again

What might be some of the most unfortunate news to start off the week is the fact that Nvidia has decided to cancel its NVISION 2009 convention in order to reduce costs, according to the company.

Last year, NVISION was introduced as the world's largest visual computing mega event and took place between August 25th and 27th at the San Jose Convention Center in California. The show sought to define the visual computing space of the IT industry and provided many compelling examples from various worldwide small business and large corporations alike.

Nvidia originally planned to hold NVISION 2009 again in Q3, but has revealed that the economic decline reduced the number of attendees considering visiting the show this year. On another note, the company added that it will still host several smaller forums this fall.

nVISION 08 was indicative of its one-off nature already. Too obvious at a company trying to grab headlines as much as possible.

Seriously besides the nVidia stripteasing (and Tricia and the Mythbusters), what else did the show really bring value to that justified the cost of its organization?

IMO, the show may have been better off as a series of smaller events in the first place.

yeah, it's kind of just a dog and pony show for Nvidia... I mean, if attendance is good and you have the dough I guess it's a useful marketing tool.. but if not it's a waste of resources..

edit: good point ^^ if they have no new cool stuff to show off either what's the point..

This is just adding to my list of disappointment. They have really turned me off to their stuff in the last couple of months with how they are going through with stuff.

Like the renaming of a card that has been around for a few years.

ATI is starting to look good for my next build.

    This is bad news,

I really loved NVISION 2008 and hoped Nvidia would continue the trend....

Don't lose hope yet, they might just be renaming it.

Why didn't they just rename the event like they do with half their products? That's sure to make it successful.

Well such events always cost more money than they bring in (initially). Perhaps returns on such marketing campaigns have declined?

I see what I see, and you see what you see. I can't make you see what I see, but I can tell you what I see is not what you see. Truth is, we see what we want to see, and what we want to see is what those around us see. And what we don't see is... well, conspiracies.

    what should they show?

cuda which offers no value to 99% of all users or how they destroyed physx because they made it nvidia only, or osme of their quadro cards which get spanked by the firegl series?

actually i'm happy that there is no nvision 09 or nvidia would get even more bad publicity

I'm pretty sure they're more worried about their next tech than they are a big show with lots of lights and a ra-ra-ra! attitude.

    Is this confirmed?

My friend works for a company who works with Nvidia every year for these shows and he says they are still on the books for Nvision 09. Talked to him today about it actually...

I think the predominant posts about mocking nVidia in this thread is another reason for the nVision cancellation.

They're certainly not with a positive popularity. It's only natural they will choose to (strategically) hide their face until they have something interesting to show.
