    TRUE still reign?

I am building my rig at the end of march-early April..

Looking at air cooler, The price of a TRUE is pretty expensive...so less is always best in most cases..Needs to my Q9450 to at least! 3.6ghz Higher is better ofc

    So what is it?
    TRUE still dominate?

    New king in town?
I see some stuff coming close, and such

    whatcha say?

I hate being one of the guys that say's this but the answer is here if you read a little bit amongst the existing threads.

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=179992

It seems it is still king but there are a few overlooked coolers performing extremely well against it.

True 120, Scythe Ninja Plus REV.B, Scythe Ninja Copper, and Noctua NH-U12P are some of the more popular ones at the top.

The Enzotech EXTREME-X has been showcased to outclass all those heatsinks, but it's a down firing design, so you have to have exemplary airflow for it to perform to its potential.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

there are some new coolers coming to the market that could well out perform the TRUE, depends when you intend to build if its worth waiting

i would like to state tho that my TRUE was concave -many said theirs was the same- so i recommend lapping it and if your willing, lap the cpu too. well worth it

dont worry about the warranty on the TRUE, very rare does metal suddenly decide to fall apart! your cpu of course is different, thats your call

EDIT: oh it also depends on the case layout, i remember seeing one guy where the gemini out performed the TRUE in his case cos of its exhaust / intake method - it was a media centre case which was smaller than your typical tower

TRUE is one of the best air coolers. There are some, like the IFX-14 that are rumored to perform better than the TRUE, but not all reviewers have come to that conclusion. Almost everyone who reviews the TRUE has proved to themselves that it is the best cooler.

well, the case will be a CM690
with two top exhaust, 1 back exhaust, and1 intake, and thinking about putting another up there.

@grips, I already read that thread before.
    That was comparing that heatsink

I know someone made that really huge heatsink, but doesn't seem to be very effect

    you've got good airflow then

i'd go for the TRUE, but seriously recommend you lap it

I always liked the look of the Enzotech Extreme-X, and it performs close enough to the TRUE and in some reviews beats it

I was thinking of getting on, but there are new coolers coming so I'll have to wait for some reviews.

TRUE can perform well but you're paying a very steep price for very poor quality. (poor bases and sloppy mounts) They don't even include a fan.

Go with the Xigmatek. The base is flat and they include a hard to find 4 pin PWM style fan for about 1/2 the price of a fanless TRUE.

Xigmatek comes within a degree or two of TRUE.

    What he said.
Only thing about the Xigmatek is that it uses similar clips like the stock Intel hs.,
so it's merely clipped, not bolted to the mobo.
    I recommend the Noctua NH-U12P.
Regardless, do yourself a favor and stay away from the TRUE. It's too late for me, as Thermalright already got my money, but I bought a Noctua NH-U12P anyway. Results coming soon

    ok,
I'll stay away from the TRUE..
will any of those coolers block a RAM slot? I think the TRUE would..

OK... c'mon. Telling someone to 'stay away' from the TRUE is misleading.

I have no problem with the stock mount and mine came pretty flat outta the box. Running 3.6ghz on my quad with 1.45v and heat is not an issue for me. This is with the stock fan that comes with the Scythe Ninja(low rpm fan).

This is not to say that there are not better bang for the buck coolers out there. But telling someone to 'stay away' from the TRUE is just wrong. It's a badass cooler and very tough to beat.

well honestly, I wanted to stay away from the TRUE, because it was going to take away a ram slot, but I thought it was so godly, nothing was close

is this the XIGMATEK , you guys were all talking about?
also, what would be a good fan to replace the current one?
would a blue Yate loon High speed, be good enough?

I wonder what is the max clock I will get on my Q9450

You are right. Don't stay away from the TRUE.
But do compare it to others, like any other purchase. Do note that I am still using my TRUE. Because for flat-out cooling performance, it works. Very well. As far as Thermalright is concerned, I have been buying their products for many years. Spent several hundred dollars on them, both for my builds and those I do for others. That's why their current mount on the TRUE annoys me so much, because I know they can do better. Still going to test the Noctua, will it beat the TRUE in temp. reduction? No.
Just a lot easier to deal with.

My TRUE works great, and i wouldnt use the fan they would include anyways. The mount is kinda sloppy but it holds the thing centered and tight, so thats all that matters. The fan holder things work well with correct fans, and the little anti vibratey strips are a nice touch and keep the fan rock solid.

Its overpriced, yes. But it does perform.

also is there any truth that a 38mm fan of the same cfm makes a 5c difference ? some people on another forum and swearing by it

Why would you want to replace the stock fan? It comes with a 4 pin PWM fan. They're somewhat hard to find and do a great job when setup properly for thermal regulation via the BIOS or Speedfan.

The Xigmatek push pin mount is OK since it's not as massive as some HSFs but I prefer to use a bolt thru kit.
