    DFI 790fx-M2RS tri-fire??

after the release of the 8.3 drivers, i have been thinking... can i finally utilize that bottom pcie slot... in the description it says that last slot is a pice x4... http://us.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_prod...=5836&SITE=US.
Why isnt it x16... isnt that whatits supposed to be for crossfire? is x16x16x4 even worth it, or is that what all motherboards run tri-fire at?

Yea I've looked at the DFI site and it does not mention
8x8x8 setup. Pretty sure that was an option for the m2r board.
Then again DFI is much better at making boards then manuals

If you wanted to do that with 3870's, I believe most cases will not allow it, because you would run out of expansion slots.

sapphire makes single slot coolers for the 3870 now btw... and my question was mainly... will it be worth it? should i get another 3870 for tri-fire? why is it x16x16x4 and not x8x8x8???

In Tri-Fire mode the slots run at 16x 8x 8x. You won't see a large gain in all games so check the reviews for games you play b4 going ahead.

according to the dfi website the m2rs board runs 3-way crossfire at x16x16x4 ... is this a typo?? i dont think the extra x4 isnt worth the cost of another 3870...

It is Pcie 2.0, and the bandwith of pcie 2.0 x4 is about the same as pcie 1.1 x8 Don't think it will limit your 3'rd card much (maybe in 3D06)

Then it's the question whether HD3870's are build to work bes ton PCI-e 2.0 or are just compatible. Though I think, not sure, they're only compatible and not really making use of full PCI-e 2.0 16x.

    If that's so PCI-e 2.0 4x should be enough.
