AMD Shanghai 45nm Opteron up close

    Hello !!!
We had a chance to see AMD's four quad-core 45nm processor, codenamed Shanghai, and we can report that the new CPU has 4x64KB data, 4x64KB instructions, 4x512KB date and a massive 6MB of L3 cache.

We don’t have the frequencies, we don’t have anything better than that it comes in second half of 2008 and that it needs 1.150V to run. It will be able to go over 3GHz, but we don’t know the exact speed.

    Enjoy the pictures.

    I personally don't like it.
This is what AMD did exactly with Barc. They seemed to be afraid of showing Barc, and see what happened.

I fear Shanghai will be as bad as some people are reckoning.

What I'm thinking is that they would be screaming their heads off even if it (this early version) worked at 1GHz but had amazing IPC performance..

Let's hope AMD prove me wrong.
