The "460 barrier" is to do with the way the 2 separate cores interract with each other and with the northbridge/ram.

Each core is slightly different, and as such while a voltage may allow one core to work perfectly, the other core may be too high or too low. You need to find the sweetspot using a combination of vCore, vPLL, vNB and vFSBT...

The Anandtech settings took me to 470MHz stable with my Quad, but 1MHz more and it loses the stabilty! Tweaks upwards slowly of the Anandtech settings and take it in baby steps.

This is a great thread excellent work. Could anyone posting settings also put what Bios they are using as I know the each bios has its own settings for stability and each revision is far from being equal.

I 've only had my Maximus for a few days and have to say its a joy... the bios is very wide ranging, and therefore hard to set up, but the features make it worthwhile in my opinion.

I got my Retail QX9650 today and thought i would comment on the board and the QX9650.

Once i had it running Prime stable (1 hour at least) at 4Ghz with only 1.31 vcore true (very basic water doing a big loop of CPU, Chipset and 2xGPU's). I set about getting the magic sub 10 second super Pi 1M.

Without wanting to push the chip volts too far i decided to max at 1.5 bios 1.475 windows reported. I started at 400FB with an 11x Multi. An then overclocked from there.

Side note SETFSB works really well on this board. I got to 420 x 11 = 4620Mhz. Very unstable but just ok to run superPi

Because i was so close with scores of 10.041 and alike i tried different FSB / multi combinations to see what happened.

I tried 462FB first of all. This was less impossible unless i raised the North Bridge and FSB voltages. But after that it was just as satble as 420FSB, but it did not yield any additional superPi score.

Then i tried the other way 385FB - again i got the same result.

I finally managed the sub 10 sec. by coaxing an extra 2Mhz at 422FSB and got 9.984 score.

The morral here seems to be that, for me anyway, the difference in FSB seems to make no difference in superPi. I know its only one test, but still.

yeah man I agree, you started this thread so you should maybe ask admin here to erase some of this BS. This rant/rave is for the original 5000+ post thread... consider this a rant/rave post as well...

The settings linked are not my own, they are the experiences and trials of other Dual Core users. The Anandtech settings are also a starting point, planned around a Quad Core, but can easily be adjusted to suit Dual Core.

The idea of this thread was to keep all information in 1 or 2 key posts. I can update the first post daily with new information, downloads and settings.

I'm sure you can get 400x9, it seems that this is a default for them Q6600's and this board. I tried 3 different cpu's and they all hit this without much voltage.
