I just got this board, itīs old but iīm planning to run dice on it. Never done it before but i got myself an Intel E1200. How high FSB have u seen on this board? If someone has done some benching with dice on this, please maybe u can give me some good tips then Running on bios 1403 right now. Do u think itīs possible with 500+ or should i go with my older Asus P5K ?

I know this is old but it's cool to see people still using it. It's a good workhorse of a board.

I want to drop a newer quad core in this but didnt have a great overclock with my previous Q9450 but it ran smooth otherwise. What is the best of the not so expensive Q9x quads to run on this mobo and with what latest BIOS? For example, the Q9550 (what about the "S" version?) what version, what kind of an OC are we seeing on them on this X38 mobo? I know the Q9550 did great on a X48 RAMPAGE but I never used it on this.

    What do you folks think?

I saw threads about that mobo and that CPU with a stable oc for 24/7 around 3.8Ghz

According to ASUS website, the Q9550 wasn't supported until BIOS rev. 1004. So u should have a newer one.

    Here u got some infos:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=170338

So as u can see that mobo dont like high fsbs not allowing great ocs under aircolling.

Apologies for awakening this awesome old thread but I'm going to give my Q9550 another crack of the whip tonight. I need a better OC for Flight Simulator X.

I wonder if anyone is still using their Maximus Formula SE and an overclocked Q9550??

Managed to get it up to 3.62ghz! 425fsb on 8.5 multi with my memory set at 266 = 1066. Very little effort otherwise. Would my memory be holding me back from going higher?

In a moment of madness I've just won an Extreme QX9770 used on eBay for a pretty good price based on recent sales. I'll be back looking for OC tips for it next week once it's fitted. LOL

The QX9770 is in, running at 4.0ghz at the moment... 10x Multi on 400fsb. An easy OC that, right? Should I stick to pushing up the Multi while keeping the FSB Strap at 400 to match my 1066 memory?

I went back to MF1403 bios on Maximus Formula SE because I was getting some weird kernel Panics in my Hackent0sh realizing it was something else so I flashed using the same version as you Afudos229 back to rampage bios RF1001. Works great!!
