The only problem is you have you GTL refs wrong
X67 for 45nm c2d is to high, x63 is the correct setting.
X67 for the NB will allow lower volts

It's been crazy at my house the last week or so, I havent really had a chance to find max FSB, I am hoping to get a few hours to myself and tweak the hell out of this board.
Still learning it tho, a few options I have to find out what they do and how to use them properly.
I was going to part with my 8600 but now I'm not sure, did a quick run with it on the new board and I hit 5200MHz not stable but I'm positive I could have atleast a 4800 if not a 5000 24/7 machine.
Hi,
I need help with my P5E, I tried both Rampage 0408 and Deluxe 0205, in both I can go just until 435x8 (Q9450), anything after that, isn't stable at all on Windows.
I know some users here are on Q9450 with 3.6GHz or better, I want at least 3.6GHz.
Gradius
That's common some boards based on the x38 & P35 chipset simply will not go over 435FSB no matter what you do.(Well extreme voltages might force it) I have two P35 boards, one will not go over 435, the other does 475 3DMark & OCCT stable. My x38 board will not go over 435FSB at all. The x48 chipset reaches 450+ more commonly

After switching from the Maximus bios to the Rampage bios, will the OS redetect and reinstall everything, or is the bios switch pretty transparent to the OS? I'm guessing the OS will see it like a completely different motherboard, but I'm sure someone can tell me for sure.

Nice overclock!
What voltage are you using on the CPU and which stepping do you have? I'm curious as it seems I've hit a wall with mine running at 3.7 @ 1.53V. I can probably still lower my Vcore a little bit but haven't gotten around to that and it idles at a nice 30-35C with the CPU only hitting 65C when I prime it with the full 4 cores... My FSB i've gotten stable to 450mhz on this board...

Guys whats the Latest bios for the Maximus formula ? Are we still at the 1102/1201 Bioses ?
Edit : I just saw the 1207 version...All thats left is for ASUS to make it available again since i cant DL it from their FTP.....

1207 is the latest BIOS version for Maximus Formula.
Honestly, i recommend flashing to a Rampage Formula. 25-50FPS increases, lower voltages all around and honestly a better running board.
If you DO choose to flash to the rampage, i suggest the 0308 bios as long as your not running an E0 stepping chip. Great memory bandwith and high stability with this bios.

Hmm.. well yea i booted up this morning and was welcomed to a blue screen! trying to figure out what the heck is wrong right now, cause it ran perfect yesterday. i think the FSB termination is too low, and thinking about touching the CPU PLL
FSB Termination is @ 1.32v in bios whitch overvolts to 1.36v
CPU PLL is @ 1.5v in bios whitch overvolts to 1.6v
Thinking about bumping FSB Termination to 1.45 maybe higher and CPU PLL to 1.55 in bios (1.65 should be underload)

CPU PLL is very high. at the lowest BIOS setting (1.5) it overvolts to 1.6v
So having it at 1.56 is 1.66v and thats really high, danger of burning the chip up quickly.
Im having the same problem as you, i get either a blue screen 0x000000240 or somethin or i get a auto-reboot. now i just solved it and i had to up my vCore. instead of 1.4875 im now at 1.525... damn
Im still thinking about raising the PLL to 1.65 possibly.. not sure

Well, P5E is x38 based.
However this is odd, since a lot are getting 3.6GHz with a Q6600 (on P5E), so 3.6-2.4 = 1.2GHz and I'm getting just 3.48-2.66 = 820MHz !
The only real difference I can see is FSB (1066MHz vs 1333MHz), besides 65nm vs 45nm (I get just 48C under full load and overclocked, it never goes above 48C).
Gradius
You cannot see for the amount of overclock you get from the chip.
The real problem is the fsb limit in boards(chipsets), and sometimes cpu fsb limit...
With Q6600 you go to 3.6Ghz easy with 9*400...but for Q9450 you have to use 435*8 to have 3.48Ghz...
You have to use more fsb and maybe thats the limit

E8600 just booted @ 4.8Ghz!!! Little bit too hot a waterblock that isn't seated properly though >.<
1.48v so I think it's about par with what it should take. It might go with a little lower but not sure yet...

is the problem well known then? when i turn on my pc in the morning from a cold boot, i get 3/4 bsods within 5/10 mins
reinstalled vista twice, and tried 3 different versions on matrix drivers.
its not my overclock as it does it with everything default
I wonder if its worth an rma, no doubt having to pay for the postage to send it back to me as there were "no faults"
