    catalyst 8.3 is worse??

i ran 3dmark06 with the 8.2 driver right before i installed 8.3 and here were my results...

then i downloaded the 8.3 driver and installed it and enabled crossfire and here were the results... SAME cpu speeds same ram timings, same everything... WHAT HAPPENED?? i reverted back to 8.2, this 8.3 seems like sucha dissapointment...

has anyone else noticed any problems with 8.3 as well?

thats what was really wierd... as you can see the cpu was clocked the same each test and the cpu scores were way different... and yes using rivatuner i clocked the gpu's the same each time... i ran 3dmark like 5 times using 8.3 and same result...

I don't know why is happening like this to you chaps, but my system (sig) is behaving just fine with 8.3's, getting an inch below 18K points in 3DM'06.

I haven't noticed a performance drop with 8.3. Have you guys tried reinstalling the driver?

they were awful for me and two of my friends. one friend has dual 3870's and the other has a 3870 X2. at least two of us had trouble uninstalling the driver, so i can't figure out if it was a corrupt download or a series of bad installs or what. but i'm back on 8.2 now and thinking i'll sit this round out.

I just uninstalled the 8.2 drivers through the Ad/Remove programs via the "Catalyst install manager" - it gives you the option to "express uninstall all ati driver related stuff". I then run the registry cleaner in CCleaner, reboot, install 8.3s, reboot when its done and ran 3dmark06 to find I was 53 points short of my last score with the 8.2s.

Crysis works better, no more stutters...

I went from 12590+ to 9700 and it cut my CPU score almost in half WTF.

Im on the 8.2 now but i may try again after reading about the C++2005redistibutal.. I dont think it was ever uninstaled even after Dcleaner.

All i know is that the day 1 BETA 08123 ran flawless compared to 8.3 for me

exactly. i had to uninstall it from my Device Manager because the uninstall wasn't working. pain in the butt!

Cadaveca, are you saying we need one of those copies of C++ for Ageia drivers? i apparently need the Ageia driver on my machine for GRAW 2. is the C++ just to help install the program or is it necessary to keep the program running? i'll wait to uninstall and try again.

Yes, one set is for Ageia software, gets installed with any app that supports Ageia technology. Unsure if it's needed...I normally start testing each month using STEAM, and Bioshock is at the top of the list. WHen you try to start Biosock after removing both, the second will install. ANyway, it's put there for a reason...

Don't listen to this man, wasted 1/2 an hour of my life trying to fix this : P

I had to uninstall CCC, giving me errors, driver clean, uninstall adapter, reboot, fresh install of 8.3.

HEy, i'm just saying what they recommended in this thread, http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=179378 i did it and have no problems...then again i am using a 1950xt what ever issues that people now have, they will be fixed in the next set of drivers. 8.3 is to make the cards work, 8.4+ will be for optimizations

This must be why my cpu scores are less than 3,000 with a 9650 at 4200mhz...

Gunter, maybe the new 8.3's install new chipset drivers. Try installing the original chipset drivers.

Wow, now it seems my Catalyst 8.3s are acting up... They worked fine yesturday, but now the screen gets weird horizontal lines - graphics corruption if I play a game. I need to do a hard reboot to get it working again.

That doesn't sound like a driver problem to me ? If it was you should have received problems as soon as you installed the new driver not a day later. What game is causing that kind of problem?
