    thermal compund problems??

Well got my new waterchiller up on my ic7 - 2.4c. I fire it up, and about 30 mins into testing it i notice some condensation on the side of the block. So i rip it out, redo the insulation and no condensation now, but sence i ran out of as3 i desided to reaply using some of that radio shack compund that so many have had luck with. Its a bit diffrent than as3, so im not sure if im applying it right, really im not sure whats going on now. So i put the block back on and go into bios, starts out at 40c, then climbs up to 60c before i shut it off, this is all with -60c coolant! Can someone tell me what the prob is?

Sounds like the block didn't seat right. even toothpaste seated properly would do better than that. try reseating the block again.

ok, got it seated again, with new insulation, there is no way its not making PERFECT contact, better temps, same problem. It will get down to 10c with no load, but then when i do anything, i mean anything, even opeing a web site, they will shoot up to 28c, i tried to prime it, 45c before i stoped it. Anyone have any idea whats up?

what are you using, chilled water ??? I'd take a look at your pump to see if its still working ! pelt ?? check power to pelt !

heh dont worry major, theres no prob with the pump, its all metal 1200 GPH. Ive tested the chiller for a while now, it works perfectly, i think it has to be something on the motherboard side.

Kenneth, are you using the bios reported temps ??? or a temp probe ?

Also are you using direct die cooling, did you remove the IHS ?

no, this is a waterchiller, just run it threw a nomal block. Im using the bios temp guied, but i also tried to start it at the setting i had it with my old set up, 3.4 if i remember right, and it woudnt boot, this is with chilled water vs standard. Thats what makes me question if its just the bios reporting wrong temps.

Very likely, thats why I was wondering if you removed the IHS. Everytime I remove one and try direct die my temps go crazy even if I get a higher OC. Try clearing the cmos, that might correct the temps if reading incorrectly.

Hey, it can't be but a couple of things, your core/block contact (that includes TIM), the water flow, and like you have pointed out, incorrect bios temp reporting.

I hope you get it sorted out.

When I was using 3x60 watt pelts on a P3 + H2O, it had run for 9 months without a problem. Then I seen Spicy's AC unit, and thought that it looked like fun. So I ducted it to the central AC here. Closed all the vents in the basement to all the rooms except the comp room, and rugged the thermostat. Now normaly the temps were -13c idle, and around 0c load. If I booted the system and let it idle, temps would be around -22c, I let it sit for 30-50mins, and it hit -40c !!!! I thought it was legit, not knowing any better
I would then use SoftFSB, and test like this. I did it maybe 6 different times, posted screenshots etc. Was able to get my 700mhz to 1100mhz. After a few days of normal use, (AC disconnected) I started having stability probs., to the point it wouldn't run. Some folks had emailed me saying my temps were bogus ? After stripping down the system, the back of the cpu was all corroded, and the caps were shorting too each other. 1 dead P3. I think the weird temps were an early indication of condensation somewhere, which could never really dry out due to the closed cell foam and silicone.

I'd disassemble the cpu and insulation for a day or so, and try to let everything dry out, then try again. If you seen condensation somewhere, odds are there was some condensation you didn't see !!

Ive taken everything out a few times, and compleatly redid the insulation, trust me, i was VERY carfull about insulating with -60c coolant, at first i tried it just like i alwase did, but once that coolant hit -50 or so i would start to see condensation, so i had to re vamp it.

My problem back then was I had siliconed the socket to the mobo, thinking it was good enough. There was not a lot of info at the time about using dielectric grease on the cpu pins, and thats what killed me.

It was kind of funny at the time, as I was posting 3dmarks (2000) and using my legit e-mail/name in the results. I was getting all sorts of e-mails asking questions about the set-up. It was nothing special, just the best mobo, mem,v.card, etc. of the day. I finaly asked one of the e-mailers where he got my e-mail, and what the big deal was. That's when I learned about the ORB, and that I was leading it

Times were a lot simpler back then, Spicey (DJ) will remember though. That was right around the time he became ORB addicted !!

But when your readings were all wonky, then start looking at something you're "sure" is working correctly

    lol ya,

Well i did a pretty good job with all the insulation, but i may still be getting some, im not really all that worried about it though, if i could get it working that would be nice, guess i may just strip it all out today and see if i cant find whats wrong.

its the board, stripped everything down today, and put on my diy phase change. I got this with the evap at -42c with perfect contact.
