An AMD workstation board with 4 cores around 2.8ghz might not be leading the pack, but it's not exacltly a slouch.

AGP is a limited market, but they're still producing PCI cards so I don't see what the surprise is over this one.

over the long term, its not a good investment. if everything is overclocked and stuff, how much longer can a cpu and mobo from 2003 live? then ur stuck with an agp graphics card and no board to put it in.
and if u do buy one, i hope you have at least a high clocked p4 with hyperthreading. 3850 isnt great, and will end up being a bottleneck in most newer games anyway, but cpu's like the athlonxp don't meet the minimum requirements for lotsa games.

My old media server has a Pentium 2.4C @ 3.0 Ghz and 2GB of BH-5 RAM @ 2-2-2-5. $200 really isn't much; I might throw this card in there (and replace the 7600 GT) just to see if I can squeeze a little more out of the old girl.

i don't know why people complain so much about AGP

i still have my 170 from my last system and my dads old agp board + 2gig ram, i think that i'll ressurect this stuff with this card

(now stop calling this system crap, the opty runs @ 2.6ghz and it ran CSS @ 1920x1200 @100fps with all on max in the week i still had my PCIe 939 board)

maybe i can compare it with the 3870 in my dads rig (he got an x2 4800+)

There is a profit to be made from AGP still, beilive it or not. Some boards still sold with AGP from OEM's, not many but some namely compaq, not to mention the po AGP gamer's out there

All depends on the rest of your machine...

On your 'Fold' machine, for instance, it would easy double the speeds over a 7600GT!

I know this from A/B benchmark comparisons I've read, between 7600GTs and HD3850 AGPs...

On a current generation mobo/processor/chipset with an AGP slot, the difference is even more dramatic!
