    New Areca 1210+ P5k Deluxe + 8800GT Oc'd + OC'd q6600@3.8Ghz = not gonna happen?

    Hey guys,
Dont know exactly what forum this question belongs in but here goes nothin':

I have a p5k deluxe with a q6600 OC'd to 3.8Ghz. I am at the point now where I am constantly waiting for the hard drive to catch up and I am noticing it even more as time goes on.

I was wondering if I dump an Areca 1210 RAID Controller Card into the bottom x8 slot on the P5K Deluxe:
    1. Would the 8800GT in PCI-E x16 Slot be relegated to x8 because another card is in the bottom slot?
    2. Would my OC of 475x8 hold up, stability wise?
    3. Are there any compatibility issues that you guys might have run into that I should know about?
    4. If I had 4 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS drives, is RAID5 gonna give me the best performance/reliability of all the RAID types?
    5. The most important question of them all: How many cool points will I receive from my fellow XS'ers?

I am multimedia professional so loading huge video files etc, etc, is slowing my system to a crawl when using a non-RAID setup.

    Thoughts?
    Thanks for taking the time!
    jeeka.

heheh, I figured . That one was a softball right down the middle of the plate

My bad, it does have a x16 and an x4.......I'll have to wait until my next motherboard upgrade to exploit any performance differences at it's native speed.

I have neglected my x4 slot so much that I forgot it was x4 only

About the Areca 1210, I see this card gets a lot of play here on XS...does anyone have another Make/Model they wanna counter with here? Namely anything from the "name brands" like HighPoint, 3Ware, Adaptec, etc....

    Thanks!

    2) yes if it's stable to begin with
    3) none
4)if you want speed use raid 0 if you want redundancy use raid 10
    5) 0 did you build this system for yourself or to impress someone
