This kills me to ask, but I haven't kept up in the last month or two, I need assistance in spending $500 on an upgrade for a friend of mine an I've just been to busy lately to give it the time it deserves.
With the $500 budget in mind he needs Motherboard, CPU, Ram, Case and PSU. He has a Dell that will be stripped for the rest of the parts and currently has a 8800GTX. He also has a Thermaltake video card PSU, the one that go in the 5 1/4 bay, but I would like to eliminate it if possible.
I would like to see him have one the the 45nm Intel chips; not a requirement; what board will get it to where it would shine and still fit in this budget is where I am at a loss. I would like it to be P35 based, but I'm open to others as long as we can get the most out of the CPU. Most likely 2x1GB, I would like for it to handle 500mhz or better to best server the chip, was thinking a Corsiar 620 PSU, I could kick my self for not picking up an Antec 900 or two when they were on sale for little more than shipping costs. I hate trying to build on a budget with no wiggle room, but that is the project, it needs to be figured out quickly before the money burns a hole in his pocket and disappears on other nonsense.
It should also be mentioned that he is a computer user, not a builder/tweaker, I will be configuring this for him and would like for it to require very little intervention from me once in his possession. Main usage is games.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
