yeah i just find it hard to see the sense in this...
tripple sli and quadfire... if you have a huge lcd monitor it actually makes sense to play games and doesnt just look good in benchmarks. but for 2 quads i really dont see an actual benefit besides scoring higher in synthetic benchmarks.

as i said, this is by far the best workstation mainboard and system, no doubt!
and there is no way to get more cpu power, no doubt
i just dont think we need that much cpu power.
personally i would have prefered a single cpu socket mainboard with INTEL chipset, ddr3 and 4 16x slots that work with quadSLI and quadxfire.

Actually I’m married with a kid. Before when i was single and lived in $600 apartment I could probably afford this. But now all my $ goes for buying diapers

This system is buggy somewhat but I’d love to play with it.

    Fugger,

By any chance do you have MATLAB?

I would love to see how this performs on some complex MATLAB calculations.

    FEA CATIA analysis perhaps?

Thats where I see this monster really shining.

    FB-DIMM 800MHz CL3 3-3-3-12

Does anyone know where at Micron I can get some of these? The online store doesn't even seem to have 800 Mhz, let alone CL3.

I guess I have to call them and speak to somebody.

    Definitely have to call.

What, do I need to call Micron for you?

The entire article continually mentions the downsight of just 4 RAM slots and how all 4 must be filled for the full ~36Gbps bandwidth. It also tacks on a 5-7 ns latency, and so on.

Is that what you're looking for or specifically quad vs dual sticks?
NO, i want to see actual benchmarks with 4x sticks of 800MHz memory in ST. this anandtech bios screen grab only shows 2 sticks of memory.

    Here's a lot of links for 800mhz FB-DIMM's Saaya.

    http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...e+Search&meta=

I personally own 4x2gb 5-5-5 800mhz FB-DIMM's. Dave has them at the moment. I'd like 3-3-3 but realistically its just not going to be a big retail seller and I wouldnt expect to see them around.

Oh, and I paid ~$93/2gb for that stuff. I think its down to around $85/2gb now. Not bad considering I paid in excess of $600 for the 4x1GB 667mhz Kingston Value when I got into LGA771 originally.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.

charles, does tripple or quad sli work on skulltrail?
there must be a way to get it running... that and quadfire is the only thing that i can think of that could put that much cpu power to use.

have you tried 2 3870x2s in skulltrail yet?
i wonder how much the extra cpu power helps with quadfire.

    These guys used CAS3 FB-DIMM: http://www.guru3d.com/article/processor/495/7/

Personally CAS5 800MHz FB-DIMM is uber expensive and hard to find in this part of the world and anything better and you're paying for 2x desktop Penryns anyway.
We can pre-order the QX9775 here for 1500 each at one or two places, so they say, availability +1month away. 5400 MB will cost +450 and FB-DIMM 2x1GB 800MHz 5-5-5-15 costs 310 (x2) = 620. My boss was after this setup as his workstation but MB+CPU+RAM non-existent here.

    That's +4k without anything else.

    Phenom 9600 BE costs 150
    C2Q Q6600 costs 170
    Decent RD790 costs 110
    Decent P35 costs 130
    Decent 4x1GB DDR2 800MHz 4-4-4-12 costs 120

    150+110+120 = 380
    170+130+120 = 420

Leaving GPU/PSU out of it, you can buy 10x Q6600 or 11x 9600 BE setups for less than that price alone here, which is far better and useful for anyone buying for real work around here than this zeppelin, especially as they can also be oc'd on cheap air cooling stable.

In a single config, a lot of power there though, no doubt. High benches possible as shown. Quite impressive how its moving along, imagine if they ever made a LGA771 Nehalem 8-core which this supported for 16-core action.

    Nice score guys!

For the guys asking about the DDR2 800 FB-DIMM memory bandwidth, Intel supplied reviewers with 2 sticks of DDR2 800mhz FB-DIMM and they aren't available on the market yet. If you want to buy FB-DIMMs right now, you're stuck with DDR2 667 or higher latency 800-mhz stuff from retailers. I believe the 800 mhz CAS3 ones are from Kingston (not sure).

I pretty sure the Phenom costs $250 and the Q6600 costs $270 not $1x0. Still, you're point is quite valid.
