    Why does the DFI and Sapphire look EXACTLY the same?

    I have been looking at a new motherboard to buy for some time now and i have narrowed it down to the Asus M3r32, the DFI LP UT 790FX, and the Sapphire PURE crossfireX. but after looking at a few pictures i noticed that the sapphire and the DFI look EXACTLY the same! are they actually exact copies of each other? is this illlegal or something? lol.

    If company "A" goes to company "B" and orders from them product "XX" for purpuse of rebranding, and get what it asked for its OK

    On a serious note, these are same mobos with different slot coloring.

    Sapphire obviously reached smart decision and ditched their own highend production for contracting experienced producer of enthusiast mobos.

    DFI helps Sapphire OEM AMD motherboards. They are the same for sure.

    Wonder if it uses the same BIOS, thats is what really matters but then..... you are buying the same exact board so all that matters is price... But why would DFI sell them their own boards just to have them undercut them?.. Eh the purpose of these boards eludes me

    There are a few cut backs on the Sapphire tho.
    Sapphire=Only 3 fan headers DFI=6
    Sapphire=Only 4 Sata DFI=6
    Sapphire Costs more.
    But don't take my word on that until some one can confirm with the real thing as the above is what is being listed at etailers.

    Cant comment if it's THE best board but it's indeed a very good one.

    DFI buyers most likely have some sort of premium to new (beta) BIOS's etc and Sapphire gets those maybe a week later? Ive no idea really. After all I do think Sapphire has to share its profit of the DFI designs with DFI or pay a damn high price.

    Though I do think Sapphire should have used the colour scheme they used with RD480/RD580 chipsets, those were lovely but the boards were worse than crap. Now they got a good board but crap 'looks'...

    Both those pictures are clearly stamped Lanparty which is a trademark of DFI. Why do you say one of them is a Sapphire? It looks like they posted a wrong pic to me.

    True enough. What part of a dell did dell make? Maybe they designed the case and badge emblems? maybe asked for the PSU wiring to be different so you cant upgrade?

    I have an RD580 reference board from ATI, the sapphire version looks identical........... with a white PCb opposed to blue.....OMG ATI is making mobo's for sapphire........not.......A reference design is just that........whether the mobo manufacturer desides to venture away from reference is up to them......I can flash a sapphire bios to my ATI mobo.......if its a reference MOBO and everything is the same it will flash...........To sum things up , to remap a design on a mobo costs money........DFI is likely spending the money elsewhere atm as well as sapphire( who always builds on the reference )

    O and both of those boards pictured are indeed DFI, sapphire wouldn't put a board out that says lanparty on it

    Anyone cross-checked the caps, MOS and inductors on them both?

    The 2nd board has Sapphire colors but looks DFI as Ugly n Grey rightly spotted the brand mark, however it's not. The Sapphire 790FX does indeed have the Lanparty logo on it for some reason.
    I have played about with one for around 3-4 minutes, AMD used it for in-house demos at corporations.

    Just got rid of that white board 2 months back because it didn't support Phenom.

    It's Sapphire, Chew. You can check the pics on the Sapphire site if you wish (the ones in the Media Center) - Lanparty all over...

    thanks for all the replies guys, someone mentioned that the sapphire was cheaper... not by what i see. >.<. the sapphire is around 280-290 (on NCIX)and the DFI is about 250 (on Newegg). Also, what differences in the UT and DK versions of the DFI board constitute the 100+ cost difference? that 140 DK looks like a steal as far as 790fx boards go!

    No idea, I actually wanted the DK because it looks so nice.

    But once again they announce it and like 50 years later it hits the shelves so I ordered the UT instead.

    I guess the DK has some flaws from the UT fixed, like a 2nd revision, and a few things optimized? Maybe a more 'perfect' design? I dont know really. I didnt found any flaws with the UT that needed a revision badly. Only SB600 sucks arse but the DK uses the same SB so that doesnt cut it.
