    $1800 Crt

I just picked up two of the best CRT's ever made!!!

They are Sony GDM-F500R FD Trinitron's. The 22mm dot pitch is freaking amazing. I've never seen image quality this good before.

They retailed for $1800 each a few years ago. Nowadays there's a few on ebay going for about $1000 each...

    ebay link

I got the hookup on them, this kid works at an architectural design company and they had these laying around. He took a couple from storage and gave them to me for ONLY $60.

COD4 is incrediable now, I'm playing with a 170hz refresh rate and it's ultra smooth. It's crazy how fluid the gameplay is....

Here's my 3840x1080 wallpaper, click to enlarge...

    Yah this are great monitors.
I my self own a sony CPD-G520P also knows has f 520here is a link http://www.superwarehouse.com/Sony_G...M-F520/p/88974 they also had a 24 inch widescreen version of it.
This thing cost me over 2000$ canadian dollars but has been running strong for 5 years now and never had any problems with it.
yes they have the 2 trinitron lines but they hardly visible and the downside of it is that it weights a ton , its scarry how much it weighs =/
so finding a desk that can hold this puppy reliably is a quest.
for game play its defenetly better then an lcd without a doubt , also because u can achieve really high refresh rates and enable vsync on most games without any problems, but when it comes to colours a cheap 150$ LCD will have better colours then a 2000$ monitor=)
when i use my lcd for a few hours and the go back to the sony crt it look all foggy and weird untill my eyes adjust to it again.

hi quality crts CRUSH LCDS for gaming(or anything really).Sony Trintron or Mitubishi Diamdtron tubes own any lcd tube period.why do u think lcds are so cheap, cause they really are.trintrons and diamdtrons were expensive tubes because of the QUALITY lasting for 10+years.a good used crt goes for about $300+....but ppl dont grab good hi quality crts and say they suk etc and grab a lcd claiming its godlike compared to there horrible crt experience.again theres only 2 good tubes in the world right now til oled (oragnic light emitting diode)tube comes out to the public.they actually have a few samsung oleds in japan for sale right now and there FRIGGIN amazing.

btw thats a amazing moniter u got there man for $60 170hz refresh rate WOW...grr nice deal...

im eyeing the sony 24in crt for $400..

Back in the day ('97/'98) I used to roll with a GDM500PS and a dual 12m 3dfx voodoo2 board (one board, pci bridge, 24mb ram & 2 voodoo2 procs onboard).

Now you just need to go for quad sli/crossfire and drive those things at full resolution

I have always wondered why CRT all of a suden disapeared.
I have always prefered crt to lcd , but for soem reason people like the look of lcd more , plus they take less space making them ideal for ofice use etc...
Hopefully one day peopel will open theyr eyes and bring good crt`s back on the market.

It's not going to happen. Environmental reasons, cost, weight, power usage, it all played a role in the CRT's downfall. We will see new flat panel tech long before anyone is interested in bringing any CRT tech back to retail.

we all know CRT's perform better than LCD's, but there is no way a 22" CRT would fit on my cluttered desk. and there is no way i'd lug one of those monsters to the LAN parties i go to. LCD monitors are about the whole package - not just refresh rate.

I wonder how it compares to the lacie 22" blue CRT.

I have one, although the poor thing is shaky and is most likely on the way out.

That sony is supposed to be incredible. You are very lucky.

Care to post a pic of them atop your workstation? I have two LCDs and can't go back to CRT due to lack of desk space as I need a lot of room for books / writing materials. I can't knock them though, just an incredible deal.
    You must [not] advance.
