As much as i'd like to make some ATi hardware cry the nV hardware just seems to clock a lot easier without lots of little lock points and such..

To LOD and mipmap, I dont care as long as we stay within the standard values found in the driver control panels.

To be honest, the only reason I would be against LOD and mipmap is because I don't have a clue how to do anything with it.

I think it would be best to "limit" the LOD as has been correctly identified there is a stage where your gpu is no longer makes pretty pictures and is basically just farting out conceptual garbage as it chungs away on the numbers.

Thats why I mentioned staying within the control panel limits... usually pretty basic.

Can i go against the grain and say I dont want 3D'01?
There's just too much to be gained by tweaking and run orders etc.
At least with '03 or '05 we can stick to thrashing the hadrware, and dual/quads are on equal level.

I would go for the 8400GS, but thats just because I just bought the card

For the rules, I can't see any reason to forbid to use LOD and to set a limit on the Ghz. How many variables do we have left? The whole point of OC'ing is to find the right combination of variables, right?

The problem that I can reason out, is if any have a very expensive cpu, like the Q9650 and unlimitid access to LN2. But again this is just for fun, so any result is a good result.

'05 is too CPU dependent. I think we should with '01 and '03. '03 shows off raw power and '01 is just fun. I've never benched 3d before, so I'd like to play with '01 and LOD to learn what I'm doing.

    Another vote for the 8400GS

Will LOD tweaking really give that much better scores?

Maybe getting some time lines in place would be a good idea. Once it's a FIRM go, I need a week to get a card delivered.....

I like that uh.. Steak and BlueJay day/ Maybe just skip the comp and heat s8 4 that.

sounds like a reasonable timeline...... I'd take that.

Sounds good. Two classes, Top fuel and Pro Street it is then ( to give them better names )

Top fuel class = Any cooling at all on all components.
Pro Stock Class = Air cooled only.

We could stretch the Pro Stock class to watercooling on cpu if somebody wishes to enter and would be excluded otherwise.

    Regards

    Andy
i would prefer pro-stock-class being also water on cpu, else i would have to remount the crappy stock-cooler on my e2160.

The 8400GS actually does not sound that bad, so that would get my vote, as long as its not NV 7300 or 7100, seems a bit outdated and the price of the 8400GS is equal to the 7300 here.

Lod is fun, but to show hardware limits and performance, perhabs we should all run one with LOD and one without? to show the difference, would make it easier to judge perhabs?

Lots of 8400gs cards (XFX) are dieing with the OC contest in Holland.
Crappy power circuit like we're used to from nVidia.

The powercircuit is not crappy at all...

The only reason it's dying is because we run more than 2v through a card that has a stock vcore of 1,25v and we combine this with 100% OC's on these thingy's

The PWM can actually take more than twice the load than what's needed at stock so it's not crappy imo.

We just push it too far

8400GS seems to be the winner (i hope)

i think '03 for real power, and '01 with no limits (tweak, lod, ect) would be the best choice... without tweaks oc is much boring, and if you call this a "Challange" you need to maximalize your talents, we don't wanted to make OC report list for low-end cards right?

The GPU is not the problem, but memory is
