    HX620 is making funky noises

I had it sitting for about 2 weeks now and hooked it up to a few fans to test them. I 1st used a PSU tester to start it then tried a paper clip. It starts fine and powers fine but there is a clicking noise from the PSU and a slight hissing as well. It's not the fan per say as I have stopped it with my finger and the clicking persists, but when the fan is stopped the rate of the clicks slows down. I've already filed an RMA with corsair but what do you guys think?

and the question is can I use a spare antec 480 trupower II as a backup for my rig? stock clocks no OC

    Ip35Pro
    4xhdds
    8800GT
    Q6600

I'll oc again once I get the corsair back.

RMA to be safe. I had a PSU that made a slight buzzing noise. I ignored it, and a day later, the thing went *POP*.

I would say that the coils are producing those strange noises. That isn't really for RMA, but maybe something else is causing that sound

My HX620 is also clicking. I thought about RMAing, but clicking becomes more and more quiet the longer it's running. It only happens when the PSU is cold and fades away in <1 minute.

Mine's not too loud but it's high pitch and doesn't go away. I talked to a Corsair tech engineer over the phone, he suspects it may be the coils from my description. Also he approved my RMA instantly so I could ship it out today!!

So the other question is still can I use my antec trupower II 480?

Yes you can use that Antec. You can RMA the PSU because of the high pitch sound, coils that is?! I guess that Corsail will be having many PSU's coming in for RMA

are there so many hx620's making those sounds? I'm interested in buying this psu, since I've read it's one of the most quiet psu's out there...

In some cases the clicking is from the fan. Try this:

Power off the rig and obstruct the fan blades with a non conductive object so that the fan cannot spin.

Power the unit on and see if it clicks.

Regardless, we'll happily replace the PSU for you if you like.

No, these sounds are not typical and overall our rate of problem/defective PSUs is VERY low. You can buy with confidence and if you have an issue, we'll handle it.

Mine is practically inaudible, I even checked with my ear right up the back of the exhaust, just a dull hum of air coming through.

yep great support. I called up corsair they hooked me up with an RMA technician that I explained clearly the "symptons" and he said he'd approve my RMA right there. So I had the PSU shipped within 2 hours of submitting the RMA!!

I have a questing regarding noise as well. This is as good a thread as any. I currently have a Nexus 4090 PSU which humms/buzzes somewhat, under load and only then at ~250-300w.

I'm wondering how silent the Corsair PSU generally are? I'm especially interested in the VX550, does it make any sound at all except the noise from airflow?

Very quiet. The 550 noise level is virtually identical to the VX450. More info here at Silent PC Review:

Thanks for the quick answer I have no experience of your products but you seem to have great support! Looks like it'll be a Corsair product for me when I upgrade my PSU.

I can vouch that both the HX620 and the VX450 are dead silent. Amazing PSUs. if the VX550 is about the same as the 450 then that is totally awesome.

I wish Corsair Germany would be that great with RMAs. We have sent back several HX because some of them had defectice fans making very annoying clicking sounds, and guess what... the guy honestly told me he didn't hear a thing
Now, either he was deaf, or he just didn't want to replace the fans. I don't know, but in any case sent them back to our distributor and got new ones from them

Sure the buzzing comes from the PSU not the mobo? Thought mine was buzzing at first until I realized it was just coil noise from the mobo (which I've not heard for a long time now actually).

I have this combo, no buzzing

I DO get buzzing with Supreme Commander Forged Alliance but this is coming from the motherboard, and yes it definitely is the board since my PSU is bottom mounted.
