patting yourself on the back a bit huh stevil have we seen the performance numbers on that monstrosity yet? Im interested to see how it will compare vs the big typhoon 14 lol
Just noticed there was no thread specific to custom built air cooling heatsinks, thought i'd fill the void

Haha, ;D very nice.
Thinking of making somthing for my old Tuniq. (since the base is easy to mod! but then you'll have to figure out a mount)
Big heatsinks cut into little heatsinks and mounted with AS thermal adhesive on motherboard mosfets, video card vrms and bridge chip. In the close-up pic of the video vrm's, check out the left heatsink; I had to cut a notch in the bottom of the hs to clear a resistor sitting in between two vrms. The hs on the bridge chip and the right vrm look like they are touching resistors, but they're not. The heatsink on the southbridge is from a crt monitor.

Honestly, I would mod a TRUE to something similar to that if I had the time and tools to around here. Pity by the time I plan to start, it'll be too old.
Using 2x TRUE heatsinks instead, one base, 4 heatpipes to each HS around the opposite sides and one side with 4 heatpipes running straight up from the base, with a /\ aerial HS shaped design enabling to fit 4/2 fans. Weight would be taken care of too.

Yea, what did you use to cut? I have some old AMD HS's I'd like to make into big mosfet coolers.
I used this Dremel to cut the heatsinks:

This is the Mod made by Crankybugga, whitch modded the northbridge to cool down the temps. He obtained sucess.
where'd he obtain the heatpipe?
nice northbridge cooler with that golden heat pipe...
its a good idea since the cpu cooler is usually bigger than it needed to be

@STEvil - Is that custom heatsink of yours made out of two Thermaltake Big Typhoon's? How easy was it to make, and how well does it perform?
Everything started with Palit 7300GT Sonic with very poor cooler
this "evil' device" made 55 Idle and 63 celsius in stress. So I've decieded to improve it a little with Intel pentium Lga 775 box (copper core)cooler:
after this mod temps were better so I could finally increase Gpu voltage (1.24) to 1.7 (24/7)
It's not an heatsink and the card is on water, but nevertheless i have custom aircooling on the PWM.
The heatpipe is from a laptop. I made it more flat and now its cooling some mosfets. It works great, gave me a +25mhz increase in coreclock. To bad my HD2900 is dying and even gives artifacts in 2d mode as i type this down.
