I'm gonna go to work on mine. It's the second time i'm taking it all apart today I hope it's the last and i see noticeable results!!!!!!!

what i did was bend up the small metal tabs on the bottom two fins above the nb sink so they were straight out and i also took the corners on that side and carefully bent each upward just a bit starting at the top and working all the way down this way it was just barely touching the nb sink. when i first tried it it was really tight on the nb sink when i tightned it down..
so for a 4.2 overclock is a max temp of 67c decent so far thats the highest ive seen so far from orthos that was on test 2 8k running blend first test passed fine and this is with 1.32x volts on the cpu
looks like its settled on 37 core 1 and 45 core 0 idle temps.. not bad from where it was and i still have a nb fan to add a second heatsink fan and another 3 case fans on my 690!! that should help out some

still think ill order me a true again or maybe that new ocz one everyone is ravning about or the newest version of the xig.. hmmm if i can shave off another couple deg ill be super happy with a 4.2 24/7 oc..

well your temps are still better than mine im at 4.2 at 67c or so.. your at 4.3 same temps. what did you do to get the lower temps..maybe i can try again doing something else now.. but right now im not going over 67-68 max temps..i would still like it to be lower. im thinking the xigmatek just starts off really well but gets saturated and then cant keep the lower temps we both started with the first time we ran prime. im stinking a different cooler and a lapping job are in order for the cpu

I just shaved off those things from the backplate and remounted.
Dunno why it stayed at 60C the first time and now it jumped again at 67. I think the Heatsink is saturated too and can't really keep up with these low VID cpu's and "highish" voltage. It's just too much for AIR IMO or maybe it's just because it has only 6 heatpipes
I don't think a lapped TRUE would offer any improvements to be honest but if you get one post back though. If it offers improvements over this i'm gonna get one also.

im thinking about that new ocz one that tested better than the xig and the true in the tests here by spawne (i think that who tested them)
even still at 4.2 still running stable still running orthos 67-68 on air imo is not bad. my x9000 in my laptop gets mid 70's not overclocked and its a 45nm and thats stock

OK. So I tried to overclock to 4200 Mhz again. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful, but in the process I did get more information as to why the system goes unstable.
When running Orthos, the system runs fine for about 5-10 seconds, but after that CPU-Z sensors read a massive drop in Vcore (From 1.36 to 1.03) and POOF the system shuts down. I'm not sure how to go about fixing that. I get the feeling if I can do something about it, I will be able to do a stable 4200 Mhz OC with this chip. Here are the settings I used.
Vcore - 1.36 (real) (Set to 1.32 in BIOS)
NB - 1.504
SB - 1.65
CPU VTT - 1.26
Ram 5-5-5-18, 2.1 Volts
PCIE Clock - 105 Mhz
CPU VID Drop - disabled.
All CPU Special functions except multi processing - off
Strap - 400/800 strap (But tried and failed on 333/667 too)
Any suggestions on solving this particular problem? or is it just a lost cause?

ya use it 24/7 and ya shiped from canada
thier not heavy either ...exellent out put for the buck
eye can eazly get it to lower temps (adding a 120mm 120+cfm fan to it )then it starts maken water
right now eye keep a plastic tray hanging undernieth it just to catch any water droplets falling off the waterblocks .. but the cpu block does not sweat
only have to worry about the blue waterblocks no the unit itself
it's gotten my cpu up to 4.5 so far ( not stable yet ) with same temps as 4.0

I make my own custom backplates that put those stock ones to shame, I'll have to post some pics when I finish my new ones.
turn down the vcore back to around 1.20-1.21 then turn the special add to disabled and add 106.xx to 107.xx till you find the 1.3x spot (if you set it to 1.20 vcore then set it to mid to high 106.xx for the voltage you need but ill bet doing it this way you'll need a bit less than you are using now i know i did) you need this for me was MUCH MORE STABLE than trying to shove 1.35 up the cpu's throat lol
i tried the "brute force" with this mobo and it was no go for me. i had to literally start as high as it would let me boot with then step it down one notch at a time. yeah it took me a while but thats how i got where i am and ill bet i could go more with only small steps in special add vid for prob 4.3-4.5 with better cooling 24/7 this chip seems to love to go..
imo that is a lot of volts on the nb im running 4.2 for my oc right now with only 1.37 on the nb and it passes orthos for 6 hours now...
imo leave the sb alone 1.51 i believe
i have the the cpu vid drop set to enabled and for now try the strap at auto till you get stable.. i fought a huge battle with this mobo and cpu and so far im winning the fight im at 4.2 with 1.328 voltage and 6 hours stable on air with temps maxing at about 67-68c during orthos and prime..
oh and imo i leave the c1e turned on so that when im not using the 100% it will back down for me and not run so hige working GREAT so far for me

yeah but remember this is with both cores at 100% how often will they run that way in real world use. ill bet the temps will prob stay at or around 60 or less everyday max.. know what i mean?? so far i have yet to see them go over 70 yet running orthos.... yeah i feel pretty good about it i just wish the temps were like my last e8500 they were almost 10c lower at idle and 5-7 less at max...
also i do see the vcore drop to 1.316 during orthos so ill bet i could squeeze even a bit more but i think ill be content unless imm doing a all out bench run.. so if i added another small bit ill bet i could get to 4.3...

i have to say once i have learned patience with this mobo it really is a nice board...
what do most people see with their e8500 at idle on both cores?? im seeing 37 core 1 and 42-45 core 0 (has to be something wrong with it im gonna lap it tomm to see if that will help but it refuses to drop below 42 no matter what i have done)
and everyone had me worried about the q817 chips lol... ^^^^^^^^ but next step is to get temps down a bit then start to up the fsb and drop the multi to see if i can get to near 500 with the same overall clocks..

Passed to E8500, batch Q816A678. First found FSB @ 450 MHz. CPU FSB @ 1.2V, and nForce SPP @ 1.4V. Did a pencil mod. So far at 1.232V load stable at 3,6 GHz (8x450). My BIOS voltage is 1.23750V, Windows idle 1.224V. Passed 12 hours of Prime.
My max temperatures were 52-53 C.
