I read that article... That site is fairly trustworthy when it comes to benchmarks too. Its all good to me, it means lower prices for all

Yeah! I thought they did an excellent job on the review. Straight forward and no prejudices that I could detect. Maybe good for prices depending at what angle you are looking from. If it is from the AMD side, it is not going to be cheap any longer to buy a perfoming system from AMD.

    GamePC - is a store...nuff said!

OK, Gamepc did a review if a 1.6 ghz.... not a 2.5 ghz hammer. There is a big difference there, with the P4, 1.6 to 2.5 is not that big, but the hammer scales better.

Anyhow, I have been reading AMDzone articles for years, and I find them quite fair, that is what I base my opinion on, not just this one review.

    Toms Hardware =total liars
    Gamepc = I dunno

Even [H] and other sites have some ax to grind for some particular cause. We just have to weave through the bs to find out the true facts. I just thought they did a fair presentation of the platforms which were at stock speed.

i wonder what you can oc a 1.4ghz opteron to... do you think theyoc about the same? they are@250$ a piece already. i bet theyll drop to 150 or lower in a few months.

a system with 2 of those clocked to 2.1ghz+ would sure kick 4ss!
opterons get even faster when used in mp configs, so they would run really really fast!

I think with air cooling don't expect more than 225 mhz.

Yeah! Go look at the above link. The 246 cpu is a 2G default cpu and they got to 2.25, so 250 mhz, my mistake.

i dont think you can draw any conclusions from how the higher clocked cpu overclocks to how the lower end chips clock.

my 1700+ clocks to 2.4ghz on air, thats a 1ghz increase in clockspeed and doesnt mean a 3200+ will clock up to 3.2ghz on air

the low end chips usually clock only a little worse than the high end chips, the older the chip design the less diference youll find between high and low end chips in ocability.

the opteron is pretty new, so i wondered if the 1.4s already clock to 2.x as well...

You guys are reading my mind...same fab just a lower multiplier we just have to watch week codes like you do on the XP1700's. All though I would wait a couple of months to see others getting familiar with the newer hardware like boards and ram and verifying the things we are talking about here because it is still very new but this is extremely exiting for the AMD camp and possibly the Intel group as well in that real competition will drive performance up and prices down. A win win situation for everyone.

In that I have stayed true to AMD since your departure for the dark side and even weathered your 18 months of grueling Sandra memory bandwidth and Q3 spankings on the 850, Granite Bay, and Springdale.

I'm liking what I've been seeing so far from the Operton's/nForce3's (well, except for encoding/decoding/photoshop etc...it seems to be a decent gamer, at least).

The part that concerns me, though, is the overclocking...I'm really hoping that integrated memory controller, cool as it is, doesn't hinder the OC's to bad.

    We'll know if September, eh?
    Here's to hoping they don't paper-launch again
I really want to see some serious competition. Hammer versus Prescott should be delicious.

And now, the tables are about to turn....hehehehe

Some people could say that staying AMD true is like a mind that is not fully developed with experiences from BOTH sides....

I'll bet you'll have fun reviewing it against the latest, greatest intel system.

If it doesn't show in Sept., there will a lot of disappointed fans...
