Why does the QX9775 have a 14W higher TDP than the 9770? I realize the 9775 is an LGA771 part for Skulltrail, but I thought server CPUs usually had the same, if not lower, TDPs as the desktop part?

It is nice. Except the 6700 seems to be the only significant
price cut on the agenda. But at least there's that.

Long live Kentsfield. Unless the Q9550 drops in price and hits 550FSB then I'll be stuck with Kentsfield for cascade benching. People paid through the nose for a 9x multiplier in the past, looks like it'll be the same for this generation.

A cool CPU given the speed, but the E8400 looks like its gonna be the big winner for performance/price.

But E8600 will be interesting to benchers like dinos22, that 10x multi is needed for the really high speeds. But you're right, E8400 is the sweetspot for price/performance though.

Yeah, the E8400 is in a good position in terms of price, for oc'ers who wants 3Ghz as a decent starting point..

The Q6600 at 224 is pretty significant to ... what will this do to the Phenom 9500 and 9600 do you expect?
One hundred years from now It won't matter
What kind of car I drove What kind of house I lived in
How much money I had in the bank Nor what my cloths looked like.... But The world may be a little better Because, I was important In the life of a child.

AMD will respond, perhaps sooner than later. I think we may be
seeing some incredible cost-of-entry for AMD quads very soon.

I've said it several times recently. The Intel vs. AMD fanboism is tiring,
you really can't lose either way you go. And what makes it a really
interesting time for enthusiasts is that in the face of historically high
global commodity prices, we're enjoying historically low PC commodity
pricing in virtually every area. Diversify! Straddle both markets! Hell I'm
putting together a new AMD AND a new Intel rig this year,
    and lovin' it!

Yes when is the E8600 and it's lovely 10 multi out? If its Q2 I might wait especially as I wish to use it with 780i chipset with its FSB "features"

i don't think the tdp's on that table are very accurate.
the 45nm penryns have the same 95w tdp of the kentsfields, wtf

You can forget that, xtreme editions never drop that much in price, look what you have to pay for a QX6800 nowadays.

No. QX9770 is for LGA775 and QX9775 is for LGA771 (Server and Skulltrail).

    3rd line down

nice another pricedrop. i must say though after reading bench sessions & reviews of these cpu's for weeks (8400 etc) its almost disappointing to know i cant get one till q3 this year at the earliest. by the time i can buy one, i'll want the new ones. this prerelease tesing must be fun for those involved, but it makes the cpu's seem like already dated hardware by the time they hit retail.

my system just got nicked, i want an e8400 now dammit
