    Dvi-d vs. dvi-i picture quality

Want to get a new lcd monitor and I'm wondering from some people that have experience with various dvi interfaces, is there a difference between a dvi-i connection and a dvi-d connection (as far as picture quality goes). I was looking at getting either the Samsung 226BW or an LG 22in widescreen (lg model # is L226WTQ-BF), but I noticed that both of these monitor have DVI-D inputs only and no DVI-I.

I see that those extra 4 pins handle analog data, so just wanted to know if they made a big difference to the picture and I should try to check out something else, or if one of these would be good.

That's good to hear. While I usually don't go there, I noticed (actually the wife alerted me to it) that that particular LG LCD is on sale at Best Buy right now (and in stock at the store down the street) and it's $10 cheaper than the Samsung one is off of Newegg (before shipping price).

What the heck is the deal with the screen type? I noticed in the reviews at Newegg that some people were like "oh, my bad luck I got an xyz monitor and it wasn't very good". Are there like different versions of the same monitor and some are good overall and some are crap or what exactly does the screen type mean in this case?

best type is "S" panel. the "A" type has colour bleeding. the "C" panel has a blue hue to the whole screen. they most likely fixed the issues if they were made after Dec07( atleast i hope) your best luck is to go for the LG, i knoe it will work.

Well, on your advice MonkeyWoman I ended up going with the LG. It only came with a d-sub cable though, and I don't have any extras so I'll have to wait to get the full effect of this, but even with the d-sub only setup that was in the store, the picture looked pretty good. I could've gotten a dvi-d cable from BestBuy, but they wanted $47 for it. What a friggin ripoff!

Image Quality will be the same, the difference is one can pass both digital and analog and the other, only digital. For an LCD you will only use digital so you only need DVI-D, which will come with any LCD.
    Windows 7 + SSD:
Mode: AHCI, default Microsoft driver or latest Intel RST
    Defrag: Off
Hibernation: Off (use Sleep mode, recommend a UPS)
Indexing: On (it only indexes a few locations, not your whole system unless you tell it to)
Page File: On (set to the minimum of 16MB if you have a large amount of RAM, disabling not recommended)
    Prefetch: On
Superfetch: On (RAM is always faster than an SSD - use it)
System Restore: Off (with regular backups)
Browser Cache: RAM Only, Disk Cache Off (How to with Chrome)
Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Downloads to HDD (Public Libraries too, see above link about junctions)
    UAC: On!

QFT. I bought a "C" panel for my 22", the blue hue drives me nuts. Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to check it out until 6 days later and the place I bought it from had a *strict* 5 day return policy. May have to try breaking it at some point so I can have it RMA'd and see if they'll send me a Samsung monitor with *gasp* a Samsung panel inside (seriously, who sells the same series of monitor with 3-4 different panels inside, all of which look different?). Either that or I'll sell it for a loss and buy something else.

u wont notice a difference with dvi-d and dvi-i. as long as u have a digital signal going from your graphic card to your display, thats all that matters. BTW, i believe u can adjust the picture modes for more to less contrast. i use movie mode when i game. congratulations and good luck
