So, where can we get this magical Sanyo Denki fan? It sounds like a good investment.

So now, a Sanyo Denki in pull or 2 47cfm YLs in push/pull. The first needing a fan controller and the latter not, hm :[

Poking around different fans (since sleeve bearing yates in a horizontal position doesn't seem to work the greatest in the long run) and I found this funky looking one

Perhaps, your next roundup could include this one for kicks to see whether it is even worth considering for anything?

    Don't hold your breath

May-ish release probably. Planning now while at school, get out for summer in late April. Then probably a week of ordering new fans and building a new testbed (all new...really cool plan should speed up testing and be a lot more flexible, will detail it later ).

Then probably 2-3ish weeks of testing and retesting....maybe even longer since I have 35 fans planned for part 3. Then probably another few days of graphing and writing it up.

    Eric,

Let me know if you have an opinion on the funky Papst 4312L, sold at Danger Den. Expensive at $19 bare wire (!) but a very unique size of 120x32 mm. Yes, its a 32 mm fan. Unique 5 blades. Specs are 56 cfm @ 30 dB.

It is really unfortunate that as popular a fan as the Sanyo Denkis are that no one can keep them in stock.

Petra's has been out for quite a while.

Frozen CPU has pulled them from their 'site. I called them 01/14 and they stated that they had gotten theirs on closeout and would probably not be restocking them.

It seems the problem is Sanyo Denki America.

I called Sager Electronics in Dallas 2 years ago. They told me that SD America requires a very large purchase (> 500 units) in order to import them. I guess $10K worth of one single fan SKU is hard for a distributor to swallow. And there are only three distributors for the entire US. Arrow, Marsh and Sage.

Whether this is true on not, I don't know, I'm just going by what I'm told. But it's a damn shame, nonetheless.

I'm glad to see a fan review thread stickied.
It answered alot of my questions, thank you.
I use the Zulman ZM-F3 Red Led fans because they're the most quiet, good, red fans i've used so far.
If anyone knows of a better Red Led 120mm fan, please let me know.

I would like to see a review for this, as I like the claims for stats, but how valid is the claim?

110CFM at 2500RPM with 120x120x25 is unlikely...probably noticeably less than 100CFM really. Though the blade design is fairly exotic, so it might be more 'efficient' (or not at all). It will come at a cost of radiator performance if it does have >100CFM at 2500RPM.

38dBA at 2500RPM and 16.5dBA at 800RPM are both plausible.

Of course this says nothing about noise profile or even the CFM/dBA curve. Double ball bearing fans don't 'like' low RPM very much (typically).

I picked up a Coolermaster hyperTX for a cheapo build I did for a friend, it comes with a 92mm version similar to this fan. I was actually AMAZED at the amount of static pressure it had. For fun before I handed the system over, I made a 120mm adapter shroud for the HSF and that little 92mm pushed more air through than a 120mm Yate SL I tried at full speed, and it was about even in noise output or even a bit quieter. There was some noise from turbulence since it was sitting right on the fins. There also seemed to be a slight high pitch resonance tone from the blades, I assume because they are quite thin and are made from a fairly hard plastic. This is not a good stick your hand in fan. I would still say the yate had a more subdued tone.

My only complaint is that the blades are very thin, sharp, and brittle. I accidentally touched one while it was runnning and the entire blade flew right off... I was kind of sad as it was a neat little fan.

I was looking for a ball bearing fan that would horizontal mount well and this might be just the ticket... I'll order one and make a thread with initial impressions.

Awesome review Vapor! Thanks for all of the effort! I'm glad my Sycthe F fans held up pretty well... although looking at those Denkis makes me want to upgrade!

This information is confirmed. A retailer stated in an email that they have to order them DIRECTLY FROM JAPAN, not SD America the minimal order is 500 units and delivery time is 10 weeks. Seems like SD doesn't want to do business except on its own terms.

    Sucks really.

The moral of this story is this:

If you want the SD fans, buy them whenever them become available, since it may be months before they become available again.

Haha, I watched them go from 39 in stock at FrozenCPU slowly to 18 and then in a matter of a day those 18 were then gone. Sadly, it wasn't until I finally decided to go with them over the less expensive YLs that they quickly went out of stock
