Anyone here using "comcast" cable internet?

Guys im looking for your opinion here. I'm currently using bellsouth DSL AND IT IS HORRIBLE! My average download speed is around 235-270kbps (told you it was SLOW!) at the time I ordered my internet, this was all that was available at that time. My DSL subscription is a 3Mb connection supposivly. Comcast has recently been digging around and now I have OPTIONS . Comcast is offering a 8Mb cable connection for the same price as my DSL. I used to use Cable internet back in S.Florida and found it VERY FAST, actually smoking fast . My question for you guys is this: What do you think my download speeds might be if I switch back to cable internet? I can only hope that I might have the possiblity to download @ close to 1Mb, I cant stand my DSL anymore. Thanks

    I have comcast.

There is major problems with their email system. It's too heavily filtered and your lucky to get any mail half the time. I would suggest using gmail or hotmail or something if you go with them.

They have SEVERE restrictions on upload bandwidth, so if you need to do a lot of uploading... I'd think twice about using them.

Unless your downloading from web (port80) only, your gonna see mega performance hits.

They also do other strange things.

On the plus side, you don't need to install any funky software from them to use the service. This is quite nice imo.

I'd say try it and see if you like it.

Normal web performance (80/21/20/443) is pretty good.

However if you do any encrypted traffic (p2p,vpn etc) then stay away.

Thanks for the reply everyone. I ended up staying with my CRAP DSL. Comcast wanted $74 a month for their service and I cant afford that at this point.

I had comcast for about 6 years then they kicked me off as I was "using the internet too much" (average download usage was about 900kbit-1mbit per my interface records). They put me on 'probation' for 18 months (ie, no service from comcast period to this residence address).

Unfortunately the only other connection available here is sprint evdo but the speed sucks big time.

Anyway, they have a un-assailable team that makes the decision as to what is 'too much' and cut you off. they will not tell you what that figure is (so you never know if you're going to get hit or not). The only option would be for comcast business service which is close to $150-200/month.
