Lightbulb New Home (Pre-Wired) Gigabit Network Ideas

I just bought a new home and it is pre-wired with RJ45. I also just signed up with Verizon FiOS 15/2.

I want to setup a Wired Gigabit Network! The problem is the router i received is an Actiontec Verizon 100Mbps Wireless Router, and there is only 1 RJ45 jack at each location (Living Room, Kitchen, Master Rm, Bedroom #1)

I was thinking of adding 3 Gigabit Switches; 1 at Living Room, Office (Bedroom #1), and the Data Center in the closet to connect all the needed devices at a full Gigabit speed and have shared folders and printing.

So i drew up a schematic that has multiple Gigabit jacks at each needed location. Please take a look at it and tell me if i am way off-base or if there are any improvements; or if there is anything i could do to simplify it. The attachments also show future upgrades or possible addons.

Thanks for your comments and input!

i'd just get a 24port gigabit switch and run a couple drops to each room

Problem with adding drops is that the house is already built.

how are you running the new gigabit cable then?

i'd just cut some holes in the walls and patch them when you're done.

the house is pre-wired with one RJ45 Cable to each room. they all terminate in the master closet where the verizon router and the FiOS enters the house.

    Each room wall jack has 2x RG6, 1x RJ45, & 1x RJ11 with the exception of the kitchen which only has 1x RJ45 & 1x RJ11.

it looks like you have replaced 100mbit in the wall with 1000mbit?

    fixed.

I was thinking of getting the Netgear GS105 & GS108.

Besides warranty, is there any difference between the GS100 Series and the GS600 Series?

why wouldn't you use a single switch so your internal traffic never has to route back to a 100mb connection?

the GS100 series supports jumbo frames while the GS600 series does not? i think.

the 100mb connection is the modem/router provided by verizon (Actiontec MI424WR). I wish i could get a gigabit router that i could replace it, but i think the digital tv (FiOS TV) connects to the router and has specific ip address.

i think you misunderstood what i meant. in your future setup you have 2 gigabit switches, they connect to each other through a 100mbit switch. (the actiontec modem/router).

so... if a computer on switch1 wants a file from switch 2, its going to transfer at 100mbit.

if you had a single gigabit switch, then no matter which computer was sharing, it would always be at gigabit speed.

    i use these switches:
    http://www.dell.com/content/products...=04&l=en&s=bsd

they are a little more expensive, but not nearly as expensive as say a cisco switch. the netgears will do what you need though.

Oh, on the Future mock up there is a smaller 4-port gbit switch after the actiontec modem/router. Its a bummer that is is only 100mb with FiOS

The whole setup has 3 gbit switches. the 4-port connects all the wall sockets throughout the house. then the other 8-ports expand the office and living room connectivity.

I decided to go with the unmanaged netgears. zipzoomfly had the best prices.
