DFI will send me a new chip for $10.00 so I've ordered one. Regardless of whether this IS the issue or not it is not a bad idea to have a spare.

I'll be patient and try this when it comes to see if this is the solultion.

This process will take a few days longer... but if it works then I'll have saved a few weeks. If it doesn't work then I'll be prepared to RMA and I'll have only lost a few days.

I just get impatient. Ergo my posts. Sorry.

What he's saying won't and can't corrupt BIOS. CPUZ/EVEREST do the same thing.

As for Speedfan, I've always been wary of it.

Have you an old CPU/mobo with bios socket compatible, to do an hot-flash?

I had this bios hot-flashed twice on a old NF2 (8RDA3+) board.

It let you hot flash this bios chip in an old NF2 board? Wow...

Just boot from floppy, switch bios chips and then run the "normal" DFI flash?

Did you need any flags to "force" it to flash? (i'm looking now)

FYI, these are $20 cheaper at ZipZoomFly.com than the G.SKILL kit is at Neweeg.com: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10008035

These are easily the better buy at this point.

That's it, but you will need to boot from nf2/K8N bios and then switch chips with the system running ( that's called hot-flash).

Just use awdflash bios.bin /PY /SN /F it's enough.

Sorry, went to sleep for awhile.

THE SAGA CONTINUES....

When we last left the old padawan geezer he was dealing with the C1 error...

Doing a hot flash did not work with the bios on my old NForce4 board. (The /F flag no longer works. /QI might have something to do with it now... but it could not recognize the chip.) I had it laid all out like a breadboard. Got it to boot from USB. Much better than floppy.

Anyway... the new bios is coming from DFI. ($10.00) That will be handy... makes me MUCH more likely to play with beta bios... if the C1 problem doesn't happen again.

HOWEVER: I gave up and gave in to common sense and the advice that Brother Esau was giving me... I RMA'd the board back to Newegg.

INTERESTING NOTE: Didn't realize that when you RMA with Newegg... they will ship the new one back to you using the same method you had orginally paid for shipping. I.e., I paid for overnight... so when they ship the RMA it will be overnight. Of course me sending it back goes regular UPS... dang it. (They wanted $100.00 for overnight from me to them. DANG.)

So now I'm just hoping it is NOT the CPU. That would be the pits. (But since this error is fairly common with the MB I have hope. After all my hopes for the memory worked out okay. Kind of.)

Thanks for all the help. In the meanwhile... I'll just suffer with my old ancient 4800+ dual core. <sniffle>

Now it's time to give in to the BEER side... lots of beer, some friends, and a bunch of karaoke.

Told ya Oli its a really sweet chip I never was able to cool it the way I would have liked thats why I never laid into it beyond my Review Benches .....But she's got potential that for sure

Had to drop the Tuniq Tower back into my case that crap stock cooler was running 13c hotter at idle and 20c hotter at load.
I have my CPU Vcore down to 1.23v @ 2500mhz will test that and see whats up First never believed much in throwing Juice of the bat into processors and like to find the lowest Vcore it will run at and condition it and train it like the HO it is!

boxed cooler never is a good decision..

and really i LOVE that 6400+ BE chip.. not only much FASTER at lower vcore, but reasonably undervoltable in idle mode

i think i'll buy some corsair dhx from a german forummember to push it beyond 3,6ghz and get some really nice 3dm and pi-numbers.. at the moment it does the 1m pi in 24,3s.. and thats not at all bad 3dm06 right now is at 13.3k without oc on the cards and i want to get 14k with that chip running > 3,6ghz don't say thats not possible

phenom in m2rs...

PHENOM IS GO!!

well, i got back to my dorm and i unwrapped my bundle of joy. lol. i immediately lapped my phenom after seeing the crappy high corners (see pic in other thread )

before lapping

before polish...

finish...

now, on to testing it out on the M2RS =P

i experienced no problems at all putting this phenom in the M2RS board and overclocking... it worked the first time... all i had to do was reset the CMOS before installing. it immediately booted to 2500mhz. i just couldnt wait to clock this baby up to 3ghz... lol, heres my initial results...

I'M FINALLY 5.9!!! hehe
so, for all you DFI 790fx-M2RS owners out there... the new B3 phenoms work perfectly as well as overclocking.
havent done any benching yet because its like 5am and i have class at 9:30 (i plan on sleeping.. heh) but i just wanted to quickly try this baby out before i hit the hay

Had a disc failure so i had to reinstall on a single hd today.

Install log:
2.9/2.4GHZ 1.4/1.35V failed
2.9/2.4GHz 1.425/1.375V failed
2.9/2.2GHz 1.4/1.35V failed
2.9/2.2GHz 1.4125/1.3625 failed
2.8/2.2GHz 1.4/1.35V in progress / EDIT: worked

Always getting blue screens during installation. Sometimes IRQ related sometimes page faults sometimes without comments.

I can not set the CPU-FID if i set the cpu multi on the genius main page here.
Can you boot 3GHz at stock (1.3V) voltage?
And to nag you albit more, have you checked the max ref Ht you can get? Mine tops out at ~270MHz where the 9600BE did up to 285MHz. (on 3-07 bios).
Also I found the higher the ref HT the lower the possible max nb frequency can be.

@Gunther: Nice polish, how much did you remove?

^^Looks like the CPU FID option has a major bug, it's not changing clock speeds at all [bit like Crystal CPUID for NB].

His 2800/3000 results are too slow. Wprime depends on CPU clock speed highly and his 3000MHz 32M is slower than my completely non-optimized, normal windows, AV/FW/FX/CPUZ running in background ran 32M at 2800MHz: http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/1269/2800wprimeav2.png

Here's my old 3000MHz run, its far quicker: http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/465/wp323gds4.png

And I've just ran my 2828 again [NB is stock, just changed it in CCPUID before to set on boot], its still fair bit quicker than his 3000: http://img214.imageshack.us/my.php?i...primehdid6.png

Which is not possible. His clocks are lower than 2800, his 3000 result looks like 2700. You have another DFI bug to sort out

But he has a very low stock Vcore, he has a lower TDP, higher binned model which should clock better than ours.

My results at 2.9/2.2

I think ageom has a bios related issue with 307 i can not set the cpu fid in the bios at all if i set the cpu multi on the genie main page. CPU-Z always reads the correct multi here.

EDIT: Results at 3.0/2.4GHz 1.4875/1.425V

Everest Results 3.0/2.4GHz at 1.5/1.475V mem 533-4-5-5-15-11 at 2.3V, very unstable config.

Max power consumption of the whole system during uptime was 477W DC, 12V1+12V2 had 237W DC max consumption.
Can not run wprime 1024 or cinebench maybe at higher voltages but i'm at 75°C core temps and above 80°C cpu temps here so i must wait for better cooling to arrive.

EDIT: Tried 2.9/2.4 GHz today seems stable at 1.435/1.475V but getting too hot for longer testings. 2.9/2.4GHz work save at 1.425/1.375V (minimum somewhere near 1.4/1.35V) here with temps at around 70°C (cpu) under preassure.

My newegg charge messed up and my Phenom didn't come in. After reading more about the DFI bios bugs I may wait to everything gets sorted out.

So am I reading correctly that TBL isn't gone yet? Gunter are you running the 3/5 bios for the M2RS and can you confirm about the TBL.

Man this is a little wacky. Wish I could contribute but I'm waiting till after the tax money comes in now.
