    yup, thanks muchly!

Does anyone know if we will be seeing simple software voltage adjustment tools for these cards, similar to atiTool on the x1900s anytime soon?

My card doesn't break 38c full load....really dying to crank up the voltage and don't really like hardmodding.

any chance this will work on a 256MB card? I tried ATIwinflash but says ID subsystems mismatch.

Ok well I just did my first pencil vmod. The-strokes...thanks for that pic.

Stock resistance on the one resistor was 2.66....brought it down to 2.41 but my PCB is a bit different and don't know where to measure the vgpu. Hopefully I'm not roasting it?

    Anyway so far it's stable @ 891/1080 ....temps don't go over 40c

I also have a question....I am using CCC to overclock and atitool to scan for artifacts. Ever since I unlocked overdrive I haven't been able to set my clocks with ATiTool....they just revert back to whatever I have set in CCC....and my CCC slider only goes to 900mhz.

    1) Is there any way to extend the slider range in CCC?
    2) How can I use ATITool to set my clocks again?

Also I assume that 2nd temp reading in ATITool is just some bogus reading and I shouldn't be worried? It always says 0c but as soon as the card goes under load it jumps to 98c....I'm assuming its lack of proper 38xx support in ATITool

well yeah, i thought the difference between powercolor and club3d cards was too big to use the same bios but apparently the same bios seems to work on all 3850 512mb cards? or are his powercolor and club3d all the same pcb with different mosfets and caps on them?

thanks a lot for the infos but i dont have a pencil and i dont like pencil mods... i never rma hardware i killed and pencil mods wear off which is annoying... plus they cant be adjusted accurately which is annoying as well :P

does a maximus xtreme bios work on all x38 ddr3 mainboards?

for videocards its different since there are few pcb revisions and most cards are almost identical, or lets say there are groups of cards that are very very similar to each other afaik. i didnt know his powercolor and club3d cards apparently all use the same or a very similar pcb so the bioses are compatible.

    damn that sucks man...
good thing i didnt unlock my cards overdrive.
no idea how to fix this... maybe send w1zzard an email and ask him and simultaneously contact ati tech support?

i cant use atitool at all.. it freezes as soon as it loads...
atitool was acting very weird anyways, i uninstalled it in the remove software menu, rebooted and it was still there. so i deleted all the atitool files and rebooted and installed the latest atitool version. maybe thats causing the problems now? well how do i properly uninstall ati tool?

im using 3dmark2006 canyon flight to check for artifacts and im shocked! i can bump the memory clock from 1800 to 2150 and only see a few tiny black artifacts on the water surface. damn this samsung gddr3 1.0ns mem club3d is using clocks very well!
at 1050 i dont have any artifacts whatsoever after several loops 2k6 canyon flight.

may stable gpu clock so far is 780. stock cooling, no mods...
im either lucky and got a very good card or guru3d and w1zzard at techpowerup received bad clocking samples for their reviews

    guru3d only got 750 2100 stable and w1zzards sample only did 750 1900

gurusan, i dont really trust the gpu reading in rivatuner either...
it shows 50 degrees in idle and then jumps to 56 and back to 50 within a second... and under load the max temp, even when oced to 780, was 67 degrees... which i dont think is right.

the back of the gpu is around 50 degrees id say, the gpu should be 10 degrees higher. id add 10 degrees to the rivatuner readings.

the cards are still running VERY cool compared to 2900xt!
and even compared to 8800gt and 800gts g92 they are running cool

Well, just thought I'd give a little update. Managed to get the Core to 1012mhz

Did a 3dmark06 run and got 13500 with my q6600 @ 3.3ghz. Got to say, I'm very pleased with this GPU...it's got to be the best bang/buck card out there

guys, you wont believe it, ive been playing games all day with 777/2250
no artefacts or crashes. well 2 game crashes but i think thats cause i kept switching between the games and desktop with alt tab all the time

    i <3 this card!
stock memory clock is 1800 and im running it at 2250 without any problems with stock cooling...
i mean im running 3870 gpu clocks with 0.1v less, and im running 2250 mem with gddr3 which actually perfoms better than gddr4 at 2250.

eva! you gotta get your cards running, theese things are sweet
and all this at half the cost of a g92 8800gts

this club3ds max crysis stable clocks are 760/1100
removed the heatspreader, the club3d def uses samsung 1ns mem.
and the bottom of the heatsink is copper, not polished but flat.

EDIT: the mem is getting quite hot and so does the back of the gpu and gpu heatsink.
So i removed the termal tape and used thermal paste between the "memory heatsink" and the chips. cellshock style
The mem seems to run a bit cooler now but not much.

i lapped the gpu heatsink and replaced the thermal goo with thermal paste, the gpu is also a bit cooler but not much.
    maybe 5 degrees...

one thing that bothers me is that the fan is always running full speed... and the funny part is the pcb and the fan DO support fanspeed control.
The cable from the pcb to the fan is missing though. and another weird thing, its the same fan as in the powercolor guru3d review but this one either doesnt have an led or the led is disabled. weird... ah well, thats enough mods for today.

oh before i forget here are the details of my card:

I have two cards in cf. I can overclock them both to 760core x 925 mem and can oc the master to 800 with riva. Anyway to get riva to recognize the second card as well? broke 16000 on 3dmark06 last night. dang I want to oc my cf better! LOL love these cards. gonna see if my maze 4 water block will work on one and if it will I am gonna order another one.
