So if i understand this correctly, i can only take advantage of the full bandwith, while using both CPUs? So, for a single threaded app it would make no difference in bandwidth if i was using one or two CPUs?

It would be very kind of you, if you could point out the information regarding that bandwidth split-up in the Intel documentation for me, as i just can't locate it. There is a [Spec Update] too.. Didn't read that yet.
There is no information in Intel's datasheets on how the total bandwidth is divided between two CPUs. This was found empirically from testing, for 5000X/P chipsets.
There should be no difference with 5400 chipset.
And yeas, single-threaded app. will have only about 1/3 bandwidth available compared to desktop P35/X38 chipsets, regardless how many CPUs you have installed.

I dont believe bandwidth is split but that the controller cannot effectively feed "too few" cores. Possibly due to the serial nature of FB-DIMM's and the inherent latency issues... thats my guess anyways.

Any way you go about it 771 is not the optimal solution for only using a single CPU... even if you just want it for SLI.
