Anyone else have issue with mutli not working with newer bios. Its really odd. The only way I can get it to drop to 8x multi is thru AI tool. I went from Vista to xp and lost 600 mhz of oc as well. I am starting to think my board is going south on me.

sounds like you need to install the INF update from the cd.

In device manager go to properties of the unknown device, and click on details, post the "Device instance ID" string in this thread, and I can tell
    you what it is.

I got it taken care of, It was the Chipset INF update utility driver. Thanks for the help anyway

And I must say...so far I am really happy with this board. We will see how well I like it soon when I start OC the E8400.

I love my p5k-e with e8400, it's a sweet combo, oh and Im like'n the new
1012 bios, used to have that 16x pcie sticking at 1x problem but I have not
seen it once with 1012, so you may want to try that out.

I was having some problems with my P5K-E and 4 dimms recently. I had the board completely stable on all stock voltages/timings except 400mhz fsb and 800mhz on ram with 1.9v for a month, then suddenly instability this morning. I finally narrowed it down to the ram and tested each set in both dimms in Memtest x86, which all passed. With 4 dimms installed again, checking all gtl references and voltages the board would still instantly get Memtest errors.

Finally, i got fed up and flashed from 0602 to 1012 and now everything works smoothly so far. I wish i had performance numbers to post between the bios' but 0602 was just not stable.

Anyway some nice new things i noted in 1012 compared to the older bios is 400mhz strap on NB (333 was max before) and shown actual memory timings. The new layout of the bios options under Ai clock (was named Jumper Config before) are reworked and imo annoying, the older bios had all similar voltages togethor, ie. NB voltage and NB gtl reference were togethor, now they're apart.

This bios seems to boot a little bit faster but that could just be me.

I mainly posted this for people who may be having trouble and are on older bios', similar to my previous situation, with their P5K's and have tried everything and cannot get stability back from where they had it before. Of course i would only really recommend flashing as a last resort.

Thanks for pointing out the bios voltage bug (the cynic in me likes to call it a hidden Asus Performance Enhancer ) and I can confirm it still exists in the 1012 bios.

In case anyone needs a frontside VTT/Vfsb measuring point: (don't be confused by the fan in the picture - it's just a 40mm fan I stuck onto the NB sink)

Thats odd since I flashed to the 1012 bios I lost 800 mhz of oc 24/7. I can even get into windows past 3600 when I use to run 3880 all the time. I wish I could flash this bios back to 0602 but the only way to do it seems to crash the bios and I really dont have the money for a new board if something goes wrong.

Hey Crazykooter, you know if it were me and I had read this thread pretty closely and I saw there was someone running his e8400 at 4500mhz everyday of the week with Absolutely no problems of any kind ever with his set up.
You know I think I would try the bios he is running just to see.

One more little .02 cents here I think before I got too wound up over any bios I would first learn how to go for ward or backwards with any bios try before I loaded up any new bios. You can just use Asus update in windows to go to any bios you would like if you take the time to look at the options it offers under the little arrow tab.

Like I said I would look to see whao has had an easy time getting hi-speed from his system and see what he is using and try to emulate that.

    See Sig.

All versions of Asus Update do this.

I`ve tried IDE hard drives, Sata, a few different versions of windows, and it still does this everytime.

This board works nice but it certainly has some very weird quirks.
