Guys I'm having an issue with my boards mic input in that it doesn't work at all. It doesn't work in XP or in Vista 64. I've tried everything and I can't get it to work. I can use my X-fi's mic in XP but not in Vista because it's on all the time and I can't turn it off without it not working on everything else.

    Can anyone help me out?

I have a headset and stand microphone that both work on front and rear mic jacks with Vista x64.

Do you have the SoundMAX driver? version 6.10.2.6280, which I believe is the newest, is working for me. Not sure if this matters but do you have detect new devices enabled? if that doesn't work you can try playing with windows audio service and plugging in your mic.

edit: Do you have the HD audio hotfix? sometimes resuming from standby it won't initialize, not sure if that's the case with this chipset but it def. was with Evga 680i.

Which bios is better, 1004 or 1006? Is there any bug with 1006(EIST or something else?)? because you never know with ASUS

1006 works good so does 1004, I have not found any difference between the two. And yes EIST works fine.

I think i need to RMA the board. Put a q6600 in the other day. Filled the loop back up. Used it for a few days. Now it wont post. HDD light comes on the case. Fans all turn on and spin. Light is on showing it gets power. Monitor never turns on. Tried different monitor with no luck. Tried 1 stick of RAM. Removed the battery and cleared CMOS. I need a new case speaker though. cant hear if there are any POST beeps. Everything is connected. Tomorrow i will try using my old 7900 to see if its video card. Any ideas or suggestions.

I tryed an ATI 3870 X2 last night and could not get past the board logo screen, could not get into the bios or anything. i'm back on the 8800GT now. Has anyone experienced a 3870 X2 working on this board?

No, but I was thinking that I would try that today. Should it matter that early in the boot process? I mean, I get the AI Lifestyle graphic before the screen goes black. I will get to that soon this morning and report back.

    Thanks

IF what BarboneNET pointed out is true for all these boards then we have a serious problem. Those max. voltages do not seem safe for 24/7 usage. Can anyone else with a volt-meter please test this.

you can test it by your self!!!

Find your max FSB with vNB,vFSB and vPLL set to AUTO....(or vNB 1,25v - vFSB 1,2v - vPLL 1,5v)

at your max fsb(for example 500MHz), try to set the voltage at second step: vNB 1,4v - vFSB 1,3v - vPLL 1,6v !

If the system wan't boot....there is a volt bug!

    the minimum voltage of
    vNB is 1,4v
    vFSB is 1,3v
    vPLL 1,6v

Right now I am in the process of RMAing my 1066MHz Crucial Ballistix and only have 1 stick of cheap 667MHz RAM, so I can't test it. Can anyone else confirm this please. I can't find any info on this problem on Google and it is really bugging me.

I've tried vNB 1.25v, vFSB 1.2v and vPLL 1.5v at FSB 500 and also vNB 1.4v, vFSB 1.3 and vPLL 1.6 at the same FSB freq and everything was ok. My system booted fine.

Maybe this issue reported by BarboneNet has something to do with mobo rev.

how many revisions does this mobo have? Is there really a chance that asus engineers skipped such an important bug? ıt is hard to believe and mind confusing...
