jesus tet you need something bettter than a 1222! for those drives you need a 6gb/s controller that can handle that random IO. seventy percent, or more, of your performance is left on the table!!
what is your max 4k random?

Heh I know its totally limiting them.
This card originally was used for my home server but I wanted to see if it was better than the ICH10 for this SSD array.
Now it's making me think of possibly just springing for a shiny new raid card, after all, I've already spent enough on these SSD's... (heh started with 2 a year ago and have 6 now, they keep dropping the prices!)
Though the 1222 was keeping up till the 4th drive or so, then it started to plateu.
What's a decent card that would be able to unleash these bad-boys?
The 1880IXL 8-port maybe?

Hey, that's not too bad a price either from what I've found.
My local shop where I get staff price due to a well-placed friend doesn't have em, though, they do have the areca I mentioned... I'll try it. If it's crap I'll return it and order the LSI on newegg.

is there any functional difference between the -8i and -4i that you know of?
Current System:
eVGA 680i SLi "A2" P30 BIOS
intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (currently at stock)
OCZ ReaperX 4GB DDR2 1000 (running at DDR2 800 Speeds with cas4)
320GB Seagate 7200.10
XFX 8800GT XXX 512MB (stock clocks)
auzentech X-Fi Prelude
PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 Quad Copper
Win XP Pro
the -8i can connect more devices without an expander. -8i is eight drives, -4i is four.

sorry...I should have been more specific...performance wise- is there any functional difference between the two

Well, traded up to an 1880ixl, just the 8 port with 512mb cache.
Here's a little better.
I wonder if mixing gen1 and gen2 x25-m's is harming this much.
