Help.. Overlocking AM2 3500+ on Crosshair

    Hi

I just got my crosshair to day, since i got it really cheap, and found an old dusty AM2 3500+ orleans CPU in my room..

I'm running with stock cooler atm, 40 degrees @ idle 50 degrees @ load with aprox. 2550 mhz

    So far i got it from 200 x 11 to 230 x 11 stable, and on 235 x 11 i start getting problems.

My HTT is on x 3
    My Ram is 2 x 512 Kingston PC5300 and 2 x 512 GeiL PC4300 @ DDR 5300 5-5-5-15 T2 @ 2 volt
CPU is running 1.5 volt - since i was a little pissed that i couldn't get it over 2,6 ghz..
PCI-e is locked too 100 mhz.

My problem with the 235 FSB is that i sometimes get BSOD and i get Error in ORTHOS really fast.

Help, tips 'n' tricks are most welcome

    THX!

    Just tried 250 x 10, which is lower than 230 x 11..

And it didn't like that, windows fine, until it started loading programs - got black screen..

So.. Its just my CPU that dosn't like high fsb or am i doing something wrong?

Arrow Your gonna need Memory that can do 1000mhz+ minimum like 1066mhz memory

Ok this is my Orleans 3200+ on a MSI K9n Neo with 1.32volts and a Mini Typhoon....As far as it could go on Air,,At least i thought...Then i Sanded the IHS down real thin and lapped it and INSTALLED the chip into my ASUS M2N 32Deluxe simalar too Xhair...I used less volts and gained 300MORE MHZ.....

First Screen MSI on AIR......@nd Screen ASUS on AIR...Sandded thin and Lapped IHS...Heat is your enemy ,,

I would say your chip although its only @ 50c load you may not have Fast enuff memory! ITs hitting the cieling and stopping your Oc...You also need too run the lowest memory divider and 3HT or even sometimes 4HT ...Some combinations with 11cpu or 12 cpu multi will cause BSOD on chips when using 400mhz or 533mhz divider with 11x or 12x Multi....But just from looking @ your memory id say it not cutting it in the MHZ department..

My ASUS even with a 5600+ and 6000+ i max my memory to 1050mhz which is fast DDR-2 6400...After you BSOD go into BIOS ...If the Reads Some wierd CPU CLOCK like 3000+Mhz or 4000+Mhz thats your problem and you will need to buy Higher RAM....The CPU MULTI x is locked so you cant raise the CPU with out toping out you 4300 on the 400mhz Divider ....

My board loves high HT so i run 5x too...I also run my CPU to NB @1.320volts,, Pci-E Lock too 101mhz on Both...I also Disable all Spread Spectrums and Disable Cool and Qieute...This will help when you get faster memory..I know its not what you wanted to hear .....

11x235=2.58ghz youll need a 400mhz or 533mhz or memory to go higher and thats if your DDR 4300 goes over 470mhz....In this case It looks like your memory does go any Higher, Bottom line..

From what i can tell Your chip should Go higher.... It is being held back by your Memory ,,Even if you use the lowest memory divider you will not be able too get more from the CPU ,,Unlees you get a New set of DDR2-6400 or better ,,I say this because @ 2.6ghz-2.75ghz your memory has to run Above 500mhz using the 400mhz memory Divider with a 11xCPU multi setting to get Higher!this means DDR2-6400 minimun...I even look for a pair of 1066mhz memory since the price is now low enuff

Hear check your FSB on this chart and cross referance the CPU Multi...For you memories stock MHZ....This will show you the AM2ball game..Or at least give you an Idea of WHY your 4300 is messing with your OC.. You are very lucky ive seen alot of DDR2-4300ram not go above 410mhz-420mhz!

Run them loose at first you know 5-5-5-12 on lowest divider and see how far the Cpu goes then slowly tighten the Ram back up........The Orleans chips clock nice and i only played around with mine for about 15minutes to get it to 2.8ghz...I didnt feel like tweaking memory anymore ....

Okay.. After think and fooling arond a bit with my new ram..

I finally got the hole divider thingy into my head and understand it very now

So i'm having some happy overclocking time with my Orleans.

    But.. For example. When i set 10 x 250 mb. HTT x 4.

My HTT runs only 250 mhz.. why is that ?

It should run 1000 mhz right? Should i lower HTT ?

In CPU-Z, is it the HT Link thats showing as 250?

You're using the "Phenom optimized" (lol) bios, it only allows 1xhtt multi... You should roll back on the 0804 or the 0702 (wich I'm using.)

Edit: My crosshair does 412 htt rock stable, and ht link at 1500+, so if you know how to tweak, the crosshair is one of the best mobos for am2

    Neither did I

Just used basic logic - new bios, well the weird thing is that i could do HTT x 3,4 and 5 until some point!?

    How do i roll?

Put bios on USB mp3 and use Ez flash oder was?

    Just tried 11 x 232 fsb = Orthos error..

The tweaking part - is the one i'm trying too learn

Thats right Tw1st3d. You should read up on the improvements of the new bioses before applying them. I believe the 0804 is good, think its the one supporting the X2 6400+ BE.

Completly off topic I know, but Likmark, whats your multi/fsb settings for 3405? 227x15?

Yes for regular use, for benchmarking/playing I'm doing 310*11, but it takes too much volt -> heat, both for cpu and ram. The board vdroops 0,05v too. It's stable at 1,45. Max is 3680MHz with homemade aircooler

Okay.. Just downedgraded my bios to 0804!

So now i see some new things in bios, like HT to SB and NB - what about those?

I keep getting fuzzy errors when i try going over 2550 mhz.. Its the heat or ?

Because i'm still on stock cooler (Looking for another cooler ATM)

Edit: Seems im running stable on 250 x 10 with x 5 HTT 1.5 volt (probably too much :P) and the lowest ram divider with 2.1 volt and 5-5-5-15 timing.

Edit: Around 52-55c @ Orthos Load using Core Temp to read my temps..

You don't need to think about the sb -> nb ht link, just keep it at auto. You could try running hht*4=1000MHz instead of 1250MHz.. you can probably use a lot less volts on the nb core/link if thats the one you're running at 1,5v. The volts are overkill for your ram too I think, if your running thet lowest divider.

Probably the heat that stops you yes. Try geting a new hsf. Of course it could be a ty chip too. never know.. it's an F2 or F3?

Just gonna ram on auto volt.

No its the CPU vcore there is running 1.5 volt :P

    What is a TY cpu?

    Its a F2 stepping.

    Gonna tweak a bit.

    Thanks for the stats Lik.

Probably heat yeah. Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is the only way forward for AM2 air cooling. Got on myself, big shiny monster. 2500mhz isnt a bad overclock. Always room for a little more though

Give him a break man , took some time before I understood it myself The F2's ain't that good to overclock sorry to say. Had an x2 3800+ that barely clocked to 2500.. Quite disappointing... You don't need to up the volts of the chipset unless you're running high htt (350+) imo

    No probs Mekoa.

    Edit: a little late there..

Well.. The overclock is also only for fun i don't need the speed ^^

Only use my computer for cs, movies and internet.

I call the pc my "waiting for AMD to do something good"

Well 2500 mhz is stabel, and temperatures are not to evil, so im gonna stick to that.

    If i'm going to buy a cheap x2 - would a BE 4000+ be a good choice?

Edit: Everone start as noobs, so don't pick on 'em, 1 day they will just come back and slap your face :P

no. The best buy is the x2 5200+ 65W tdp. You'll want the one with CZ in the product code. Thats a 90 nm revision F3, the best of them.

    Hi,

I just read that you used the 0904 BIOS from ASUS on your Crosshair and I would advise everibody to do a extensive test to the MOBO, lot's of them (including mine) had the Chipset ruined and are going to RMA.

I rolled back to 0804 and 0702 and no matter what I do the system doesn't perform as usted to perform, from 15000 Marks went down to 6000 on 3DMark 06...and it fried my 1200MHz mems with 2.6V!! Yeah, 2.6 freaking Volts!!

LIMARK: Remember the problem that I asked you about? This is the problem, the BIOS 0902 that was recalled from ASUS website and BIOS 0904 that ASUS hasn't recalled yet.
