uh oh I think I did something wrong !!

I was running the tuniq tower and at 3GHZ I was getting temps of 40 at idle and 55-63 at full load . I didn't apply the Tuniq TX-2 Compound when I got the Tuniq tower. I applied the TX-1 that came with the tower .

Well today I cleaned up the tower with a lint less cloth and alcohol and the cpu the same way . I was very careful and did everything gently . Now at the same speeds and setting I'm getting 80 Degree temps, wtf . I applied it 3 times now and checked everything and don't know what I'm doing wrong I'm worried now

It's gotta be the mount. That or your CPU or the heatsink are somehow not as flat as they were the first time you mounted(seems impossible to me). I would check both with a flat razor to make sure they are flat. Might need to do some lapping.

take off the heatsink and see if the contact between cpu and heatsink is OK

when I first applied thermal paste I threw gobs all over the heatsink , now I did a straight line in the middle , I think I'm going back to throwing gobs of that crap on there .

You could always put it perpendiculary(I don't know how to say it in english, but the fan of the tower doing a 90º angle with the GPU) but that way is also ok

Update: I was following AS5's install instructions by putting a line straight through like they said . Well that didn't work , the best way was just putting globs around the CPU and spreading them like a peanut butter sandwich with a credit card. My temps are far better now 35 at idle 53 at load .

That's how i do it also. Relying on heatsink pressure to spread it always produced horrendeous temps for me. I spread it with my finger actually. Better then using a CC IMO

Good, saved me from PM ing you and telling you NOT to run that freaking cpu at 90C
As to the TIM( Puts flamesuit on) I have never agreed with this 2 dots of rice theory or the latest one with a line across the cores.
I cover the IHS with the thin layer of AS5 and thats it..period.
    My Q6600 at 3600 at 100% load 24/7 runs from 46-49C in a 68F room.

    Nice temps!

Much better than the Zalman 500 Aero, same speed with them gets 70/75c.

I also agree with the small slice over the whole cpu thing
