using Hwmonitor...
so TMPIN0 is cpu average temp (i think) and TMPIN1 is the motherboard temp...
so then whats TMPIN2? says its 73C!
but then when u check everest, that temp (TMPIN2) doesnt show up

Looks like ive found the problem. I have one lame core. top 3 cores prime fine at 2.7 but the last core stops Soon as anything starts run on it. guna use AOD to see if i can turn that core down and the other 3 up. Probly wont work... but who knows

Hi guys, just a single question: Did anyone here ever have the problem that the system randomly freezed and not even the reset button could get it to reboot, but a hard powerdown was needed?
I'm asking this question because a friend of mine does experience this strange behaviour while the system is absolutely stable for hour long stability test runs. Every once in a while (sometimes more than once a day and then again sometimes it takes days for it to reappear), though, the system seems to randomly enter this undefined state where not even the reset button does help/work.
To reemphasize this: His system is over 32h prime stable and was primed (small, large and blend) about 100h all in all. 3D Mark was looped for hours, too. His problems are absolutely random. And BTW, raising voltages didn't help to get rid of the problem. Seems like a BIOS bug, but this one is really hard to track IMHO. That's why some input from other users would be really helpful. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi
That's "normal", that problem as been reported and discussed around the forum, he must find his weakest core and clock it down, I don't know if it's Phenom/bios/chipset bug.
Do you know if your friend's board is M3A32?
The idle instability have been reported on other boards, but never on this ASUS I think.
GAMEOVER: All my settings are the default settings. except for manual ram voltage and timings. i also have auto express disabled.
i have change to x11nb 1.325v. since that picture and am now running @ 1.375v on the cpu.
trying to lower the voltages some to decrease the heat. max temp at the 1.4125v was around 56-57c. at teh lower volatge im idling around 44-45c and max load temp of 52-53c so i hope this lower voltage will show to be stable.
i am also running a new bios 1101.

there is no link. send me your email in a PM and ill forward you the bios.
i have actualy back down to 2.9 now and i see no difference in performance.
or scores in benchmark tests and im running at stock volts. much much lower temps. nb is @ 12x.
heh there i go again messign around when i said i wouldnt. lol
Just needed to know.
1101
well i think i found what most of my problems were over the week end. bad format on one of the drives. had to run xppro format 3 times on it to get a clean format. now im fully updated with hard drives in raid0. cpu @ 2.9 1.3v 1066 unganged memory. everything else stock/default.
i did go back to the 1002 bios as something happen. not sure what. i believe i shorted the board installing either one of the video cards or sound. not sure.
havent tried yet to get back to the 3ghz club. as its running so fast and smooth @ 2.9 in vista 64 ultimate with 1x4gb ballstic tracers @ 1067. i know ill say i wont mess with it for awhile. but as past post show. im sure it wont be long before the resitance becomes futile and ill go playing in the bios again LOL
PS: incase any of you are wondering about the raid0. its set up on the marvell 6121 with 2x150gb raptorX's showing 300gb. with my Asus dvd/cd on marvell 6111 in sata/ide mode.
well tehre you go knew i couldnt resist very long.... stable. but still dont understand why the need to jump the volts upto 1.45v @ 3ghz from 1.3v @ 2.9.
from what i have seen of stock HSF @ stock 2.5ghz im am still under those temps. cant seem to get higher then 3ghz though. not even lowering the ram speed and HT,NB and upping the REf clock. maybe this is max for my chip i guess. not really sure the extra 100mhz is really worth the higher temps with that voltage needed.
Try running a lower multiplier and using the htt to overclock. I couldn't even run the 15x multi stable on my previous 9850, my new one however can boot with it at 1.3v easily and be stable at the same voltage I need for 12.5x240 to be stable. Also try increasing your vdda, its the voltage for the on chip pll's I think, but increasing it does provide a bit more stability for me. I'm testing 12.5x241 on the new chip, nb at 10x, vcore and vnb at 1.3325, vdda at 2.8v.
Not much to say right now.
It wasn't stable at that setting, 2.7 froze in rosetta/wcg after about 45 min, 2.8v caused computation errors on one core. Right now I'm doing 250x12, 9x nb and ht link, 1.325 cpu, 1.3 nb. I just want to max the cpu with the nb to max at about 2.4-2.45 depending because that's as fast as I can get it on air. Vapochill is not going back up anytime soon so no cold tests for a while. I actually want to get the new dual socket f 680a board from asus cause the new revision supports the opty quads and I could have some major fun with that for a while, and upgrade to shanghais when they get released cause optys don't get HT3 until the socket G3 comes out.
Not much to say right now.
14.5x205 1.3v any higher then 2972mhz and again it wants lots of volts LMAO the 240 or even 220 it dont like either @ 12.5 or any multi. i must accecpt that i will stay out of the 3ghz club becuse 3ghz at 1.45v is just uneceptable allthough it is stable at 3ghz 15x200. but then the nb and ht are at stock and ram is aswell. so i think 30mhz slower cpu and a little higher nb,ht and ram is better. runs alot cooler this way aswell.
