I have to move from s939 and agp, so i'm not sure if i'll go now, or wait for AM3. Probably go with AM2+ since i'm sure it'll be cheaper over all.

I need to know how they perform first. Plain and simple.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

It doesn't matter to me how it performs really. I've no doubt it'll have excellent power numbers, and that'll work for me because it'll definitely be a step up from my current stuff. And Intel can shove their silicon straight where the sun don't shine, so that takes care of that option.

I'm waiting on my bailout check from Obama, if he doesn't give us one then I'll wait till the taxes come back. But one is defenetly in my future. This will give me some time to check the benchies and maybe for the price to drop a little first. Everything else is ready just need to drop it into the socket.

I'll be getting one if the price point is there. That said, I won't pay over $300 for the chip. In all likelihood, I'll wait until we know how it performs under vista x64 as others have pointed out.

I have a sb700 mobo and will probably be using that to OC the chip.

I'll just hope i can get 4.0 ghz w/ a xigmatek 1283. That would actually put the system ahead of my q6600 @ 3.6 ghz on water.

Im hoping for a nice improved clock for clock performance over current Phenoms and getting 3.6-3.9ghz would be pretty nice for overall improvement over these Agena cores.

I just ordered a 4850x2 today also, upgrading from my current HD2900XT

Well for me I will get one right away because whether it performs way better than current Phenoms or not, because it would still be an improvement over my dual core Opteron. But if the price gouging is too much the first month, I will just wait 2 or 3 months to get it and save some money.

Guilty. I'll buy one as soon as I see it is available and under $300.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

I will be sure to get the chip right when it comes out. I'm in socal, so it will be next day, unless they decide to ship it from East coast :P

And if I still have some LN2 left over, it will go subzero right away

I'll get one if it is at least 10% faster then Ci7 and overclocks to at least 4.5ghz on air while costing around $250.

Since I'm waiting for AM3 it may be a little while longer for me but yeah I plan to get one fairly soon, just wait a week or two for the initial price shock to blow by.

I won't be willing to make a decision till I see am2+, ddr2 with PH II compared to AM3, ddr3 with PH II. I have a feeling that the "REAL" boards will be released as ddr3 variants. Providing how long they have had to play with 790 chipset they should be able to make some really solid boards and had plenty of time to work out the bugs.

If you look at intels lineup of motherboards the DDR 3 variants offered all the bells and whistles compared to the ddr2 variants.

I will probably be buying one to two of the 940's when they are released and then build a completely new system when AM3 cpu's are released because my testing/benching addiction hasn't gotten any attention since this summer.
Not much to say right now.

usually the best steppings were some of the first few batches released so if there is a lot of users buying and reporting which batches overclock in what way it should be fairly clear which is the gem batch

the other issue will be tolerance to cold
i have my doubts about ALL CPUs being able to handle it easily

if ppl OC certain batches and really do consistently start hitting decent clocks like close to 6GHz on LN2 and efficiency is competitive against Intel in 3DMARK01/03/05/06/AM3/Vantage (very important) then yeah for sure

i dont think they will be anywhere near as good for SuperPi...totally expecting them to not compete there
