No b.s. neon orange or green pcb's or mazes of useless heatpipes running amuck like some of those boards out of china whose "marketing" departments think that selling a lot of units requires things like neon colors, or cartoon dragons and other fictional characters, or worse yet misuse of the buzzwords of the day like the words "quad" and "quattro" stamped on things that have nothing to do with a multiple of 4, i.e. "quad cooler technology for your digital life" to describe a NB HSF on a motherboard's product packaging! no joke

Anyways hopin that this board will be able to do 450-500 fairly easy, or at least with new BIOS revisions. Any ideas?
Tonight's testing will focus on extending the FSB as far as I can take it with the Q6600 G0 and E6850 G0. Both at 9x so I'm not sure how far I'll get but we'll see...

k, so you just incrementally increased the FSB from 266 up by say 5 and tested stability? and at what FSB did things become unstable such that you started to raise the vCore and at what vCore did 333 FSB become stable?

Curious as i plan to work on that FSB and wanted a frame of reference as to where things may become an issue. thanks for the info.

nah, i just went straight to 333 (all voltages at default - even vcore) - but at 345/356 i started getting orthos errors, so i upped the v to 1.35 (from 1.325)

im pretty sure the majority of the q6600s do 333 with default voltages

Even my Q6600 B3 did 333 at stock voltage.

    Ok,
    another upgrade here.

    QX9650

Using a Zalman 9700 and I'm very pleased with the temps. Doesn't seem to break 38C @ load. Ran Passmark Burnin for quite some time and ran the machine through the ringers on Crysis and everything seems stable.

I had tried pushing 400FSB, but it hosed my Vista. I hated to push the memory up to 1.8, but it's stable, and under warranty.

    Any suggestions ?

ok i am retarded or blind or both, can you post a pic of where in the bios iirc is so i can disable it.

on top of that last night sucked. followed suit with a bump right to 333, enabled power slope and disabled watch dog and bios was unstable enough to lock most times before i could change settings back. on top of that after getting it working again, vista64 was a blue screen every load attempt but would load into safe mode fine.

    noobling overclocker here.

What effect does the EIST have on overclocking ? I don't have it disabled.

sometimes it will push marginally stable settings over the edge and make them completely unstable. In general it's best to have it off while searching for your goal, and then turn it back on when your at your 24/7 speed. Of course if you are using the board for benching an not as a daily runner, then it's completely useless.

    Clarifications on EIST and C1E...

EIST = Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology. This allows the OS to vary processor multiplier and voltage to save power. You can turn it off on the Power page in BIOS or in your OS. In Vista Power and Performance, set it to Performance.

C1E = Enhanced Halt State. This allows the processor itself to vary its own multiplier and voltage to save power. If you have your vcore set to something other than default, then C1E will only vary the multiplier and leave the voltage at your setting. There is no way to disable this in BIOS. You'll need a program such as RMClock or Everest to disable it.

In the Everest preferences, you should enable the individual core temperatures and the DIMM temp for the Vista sidebar.

    3.6GHz @ 1.13v vcore?

Update for my QX9650 test on the DX38BT.

vCORE: BIOS: Default, vccp 1.148v in hardware monitor
    Enhanced Power Slope: Off
    vMCH: BIOS: 1.250
    vFSB: BIOS: 1.200
    FSB: 400MHz Processor: 3.6GHz

    Reference/Memory Freq: 400/1600, Memory runs @ 800MHz
    Timings: 7-7-7-20
    vDIMM: BIOS: 1.82

    Seems prime95 stable.

    Only runs 21min, still running.

    Bugs I found:
    1. vCore setting don't work, change vcore to 1.350v, vccp alway shows 1.148v in hardware monitor. Seems vcore locked at default value.

    2. Board won't do cold boot at 400 ref./1600 Mem at fsb 400MHz. I have to boot it at 400ref./1066MHz memory, then change to 400 ref./1600MHz. Once it boots, the board rock stable in windows.

    3. Multiple higher than default value won't work. For my QX9650, multiple 8&9 works, change multiple to 10, bios shows 4GHz, but cpu-z shows 3.6GHz. My QX9650 should have multiple unlocked.

    Will test more.

Well this kinda sucks. One of the OCZ sticks developed bad errors and during the investigation I realized that although the sticks are labeled DDR3-1800, they're really DDR3-1333. So I'm stuck with one operating stick and that one is sub-standard.

I guess I'm on hold while I sort this out.

    Having stability issues.

UPDATE ON VISTA INSTABILITY! INTEL WEBSITE SIGMATEL DRIVERS CAUSE VISTA APPLICATIONS TO CRASH WINDOWS EXPLORER!!! BE WARNED! If you install the latest SIGMATEL drivers from intel's site, WINDOWS explorer will cash intermittenly when runnign various VISTA Applications!

Weird thing is i can play COD4, and Crysis @ full everything, and it never skips a beet, but if i run (Vista performance index), it will crash windows explorer everytime! Try to remove a program, random windows explorer crash!

Am I the only one? Maybee a bad board, but why only WINDOWS components crash?

Does your board pick up the memory as 1333 by SPD ? I tried Corsair 1333, Patriot 1866 and now Patriot 1333, but the bios ID'd them all 1066 by SPD.
