hmpf, with the fsb at 333 and memory at auto (yeah, that won't work) i get the 3 beeps - indicating a memory conf error.

same fsb, and using your memory settings (as close as possible to 1066MHz - using the latencies of my RAMs) my system won't post - screen just stays black.

    I wonder what's wrong

i am using these chips: (sucky, yes)

You're using the Q6600 G0 in your signature?

Make sure you're on the 1308 BIOS.
Boot to maintenance mode and make sure you have the Watchdog disabled.
On the Processor page make sure you have Enhanced Power Slope turned on.

Well, that did the trick. Atleast it posts now.

    FSB 356 (3200MHz)
    VCore 1.325
    Power Slope: On
    Watchdog: Off

    266ref / 800mem / 1.54vdimm
    7-7-7-20 (534MHz)

Orthos fails after 10 seconds though (small ftts)
i guess it wants more voltage...

It shouldn't take much to make it stable.

I want this board but if you guys are having this much trouble... er, fun with it, I'd be a wreck. Danm expensive ddr3. Unlikely they'll make a ddr2 version of this, huh.

Greetings >gtj< - I'm interested in this new board - my understanding was boards based on this chipset weren't out until January (or maybe that's just the 45nm CPUs i'm thinking of).

Anyway I've been a lurker/fan for about a year; have bought several D975XBX2's over time based on your threads. Whenever I've bought a new board for a friend and forgotten overclock settings I just google-searched any one of the machine-names in your sig I could remember since you have all the settings spelled out and I could just plug them in to the bios! To be honest though I haven't done much D975XBX2 tinkering since getting an EVGA 680i board + 2x 8800GTX's about 6 or 7 months ago.

However with this new Intel board has my interest is back.

In trying to determine a cost/benefit buying into this board (biggest hit being DDR3 mem cost) it occurs that I'm not sure what real world usage or apps will benefit from the greater memory speed other than 3d or video transcoding. I may still buy in for no reason other than to serve as a tinker toy. I've been buying Intel branded boards for 15 years now when stability was needed for a new client/friend build and one thing I do know is the first 1-6 months of a new generation of Intel-branded board are *always* rough in terms of bugginess!

Anyway thanks for the great work and interesting threads and I'm sure there are others like me that have lurked in silence yet appreciated your postings and gained much knowledge.

    Did a quick test yesterday.

    Intel DX38BT bios 1308
    FSB 400MHz (3.2GHz)
VCore default, 1.148v in BIOS hardware monitor
    Power Slope: Off
    Watchdog: Off
    VFSB: 1.200v
    VMCH: 1.250v

    400MHz ref / 1600MHz mem / 1.82vdimm (super talent ddr3-1600 2x1GB)
    7-7-7-20 (800MHz)

    So far seems prime95 stable.
333Mhz ref /1333Mhz mem cannot boot, have to use 400 strap.
    Intel QX9650 @ 3.6GHz 1.25v in bios
    Asus P5E64 WS Evolution
    Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1600 7-7-7-20-1T 4X1Gb 1.76v
    EVGA 8800GTS 512Mb

Thanks! Glad I could help. I agree with the "1-6 months" point. I'm not sure I'd recommend this board just yet. Although it's been running stable, getting there takes a lot of time. Right now for instance, a specific sequence of events has to happen to get the board to boot from a cold power off state, but once it does, it's stable as a rock.

Try booting at 333/1066, then without powering off, go back and change to 333/1333. That's been working for me. Not an good long term solution of course.

    Great Vcore.

Are you sure it's EIST? If you're seeing your multiplier changing, it could also be C1E for which there is no option in BIOS. You'll have to change it using RMClock or Everest, etc.

Have you gotten the system stable with just the bump in FSB to 333?

    Yeah 333 was stable.

356 is now too, with 1.35VCore.

can you give me the exact layout for your overclock to 333 FSB. I am not sure with 4x2gb of 1333 team extreme i can get much more but will test it.

did you just bump the VCore up and the FSB up to 333?

    Exactly.

I swapped in my Q6600 B3 and am Prime95 4 thread 8 hour blend stable at...
    412 FSB - 3.7GHz, 1.5500 vCORE, 1.300 vFSB, 1.350 vMCH,
    333/1066, 7-7-7-20, vDIMM 1.98.

I think this is about as far as the B3 is going to go. Tomorrow, it's back to the Q6600 G0 to see how far I can take it.

Hows the FSB on BoneTrail? Im kinda bummed that the Q9450/9550 have an 8/8.5x respectively, and that you can only get 9x/unlocked by droppin a grand which is not what I am in the market to do atm (anyone got an idea on the reasoning behind intel taking 9x from 300-500$ processors?)

Anyways hopin that this board will be able to do 450-500 fairly easy, or at least with new BIOS revisions. Any ideas?

I didn't try 450Mhz, but at least I know my DX38BT can do 400Mhz fsb at stock (1.250v) NB voltage.

Well, all voltages but the vcore at default - enhanced power slope: on.

And memory settings using gtj's calculator:
