Good point. Most mobos seem to be good at auto configuring the timings to SPD for first boot. I just hope this Bonetrail recognizes the voltage spec in the SPD and auto sets the BIOS accordingly. I don't exactly have spare sticks of DDR3 to get into the BIOS lol.

One final Zalman question - I do have a 9700 NT at my disposal. But it seems to have the part copper part aluminum design. What would you all consider the best processor that heatsink could handle?

Really tough to say. Depends on voltage, airflow through case, etc. Get the processor that fits your needs then watch your temps. HSFs are pretty cheap compared to a CPU.

I had the Patriot 1866 with recommended voltage of 1.9, but it had SPD of 1066 @ 1.5V I believe programmed in, which it defaults to, so you should be OK. In other words, it will drop down low enough to allow you to boot and change it.

Anybody using Crucial Balistix DDR3 1600 with this motherboard? I can't get the mobo to boot with anything over 3Ghz with a Q6600. Latest BIOS, tried every voltage combination possible.

I also have the Crucial PC3-12800 Ballistic and have experienced the same
problem. I am running at 3ghz solid and that seems to be my top. The
strange thing is that I am at default settings here. I have run the memory
at 1:1, 1:2 800 and 1600strap and also 2:3 but only with the cpu at 3ghz.

One hardware failure turned up. My channel B, slot 0 dimm socket produces
extensive errors. I am using channel A slots only in single channel mode.
This configuration is error free. I have requested a RMA from Intel which
is still in process. Probably held up by the holiday depleted staffing...

What did you use to check for errors? I used the Vista DVD Memory test and it came back OK. If you don' mind, what are the best setting that you have found to work for you?

I used Memorytest, Prime95 and Everest.

Present settings: Ref Freq 400, Mem Freq 800, Host bus Freq 333

Would you recommend this board if I wanted to go DDR3?

I got my two HD2900XTs hooked up in Crossfire mode, but now during POST, the screen stays completely blank UNTIL Windows boots ... I have never seen that before ... any ideas? I can't even see the BIOS screen when I hit F2 during POST ... kinda scary ... HELP!

I've used both of them, but I think I figured it out ... Under Video, I switched from Auto to force External PEG ... it works now ... but I never thought of it until I gave it a shot ... both HD2900s are internally connected ... so who would have thunk it?

Depends on your goals. Mine's perfectly stable at 450FSB.

    That sounds fine.

Really depends on DDR3 prices by March. I hope they drop because then I'll be able to get some DDR3 (4GB of DDR3 RAM to be exact). Reason being is I want to try to carry over as much as I can to a Nehalem rig when Nehalem is available.

Well I have drove myself NUTS trying to decide on DDR2 or DDR3. I "m upgrading from 875. I have decided to just go ahead and go to DDR3 that way I can use it down the road.

GTJ where are teh Q6600 tests?

I have a spare DX38BT new in the box. I already have a Qx9650 in one and running 10x420 BEAUTIFULLY on water. Pics Below. Since i have a spare board i thought i'd go cheap on the cpu and try a Q6600, but before I order one I was wondering how fast you were able to push it on water. If i can get close-to the same speeds as my QX9650 why pay $900 more????

Below is my second WC setup, my first build was on a Maximus Xtreme. I get better stability on the DX38BT hands down. I would like to get some beter mem on board though.

Notice the MCW60... I used ethernet wire to make loops through the holes in the board ^^^^^^^
