If you want to go all out, get an SR-X with dual socket Xeons, that will give you some kick. Still, be aware that Xeons are still locked so no OC that you can write home about (only about 2 MHz on the base clock).
Still, 16 cores of pure power ought to be something!! Wait till Intel unlocks the Xeons!!

BIOS 0049 for the GA and RE Z77 boards.

    Important Note:

The version 11.5.0.1207 of the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (RAID) has been temporarily removed from our website. Please use version 11.2.0.1006. Please contact Intel® Customer Support for additional information.
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...?DwnldID=21593

AFAIK they only have pulled the RAID drivers v11.5.0.1207, whereas the AHCI drivers v11.5.0.1207 are still offered within the Intel Download Center.

Yes, still 1 year away though!! :-(
Unfortunatelly, no news here. It stil puzzles me that Intel boards lack this support, specially if the BIOS seems to support it. Is the drive formatted as GPT?

Win8 is sort of a mixed feelings OS I guess. For me as a desktop OS I think it sucks really. Cool for mobile devices but not s good fr workstations. Scrapping the Start button and having a Start Screen is cool, I was hoping for that for as long as I remember. But it looks ugly as hell, I happen to love Aero an they ditched it - bad move.
All gaming gurus are already putting it down as a ganing OS, and I can relate to that.
The color schemes suck, the mobile oriened interface is so bad. Well, I believe I'll pass this one out.

stasio, those RAID driversare still there for the Z77 boards, just checked!! Funny, there must have been some issues. Maybe they forgot to remove it from some of the boards.
I see you're on Win8. How do you find it? On a desktop machine, I mean?

Z77 BH gets a massive BIOS update. Lots of fixes.

    Red face Dear friend Manel

    Dear Friend manel:

What about the third generation processors(22nm) from Intel.

They've announced these could be compatible with MB's at this time.

    You have some Info Manel?

I hope to install at my 3 TB Seagate formatted as GPT, to install Windows 8 Pro with WMC included, if Intel and Microsoft have improved the UEFI boot.

Thanks friend Manel for your help.

    Hi Paty
Some news here: Ivy-E will support PCI-E 3.0 out of the box of course. Quad channel 1866. It's a 22nm part 3rd gen Hi-K+ metal gate process. Socket 2011 130W TDP.
    Only avail Q3'13 though.
Haswell on the other hand will come sooner on Q2'13 and has a FIVR (fully integrated voltage regulator). Top chipset will be Z87 (no surprise here). Not much different from 7 series, socket 1150 though.

IB are out and they can work with most recent SB mobos, some with firmware update. The same should happen with IB-E.

UEFI should in fact be a lot better supported in Win8. GPT should do it for you. I think I'll pass Win8, don't like the UI.
Guess Linux on the desktop will have a boost.
x6 is also loosing it, wait till ARM gets a decent desktop proc - we're back to RISC in no time.

    Hi,

My friend just gave me a couple of S775 boards and one of them is the DX48BT2.
It doesn't post, though the power LED next to the RAM lights up.

When I plug in the board, the Winbond chip WPCD376I near the power button gets VERY hot. Is this a known defect of the board, and can it be easily repaired if I can swap the chip with another?

    Thanks

    Hi zoob

Another rig to add to your already long list?! :-)
Does the board even startup but fail to POST or is it plain dead? Does it beep? If it does the beep pattern will tell you what the problem is.
You could try to unsolder the old Winbond chip and replace it with a new (working) one, if you have an old board around. And the proper gear (and skills) of course.
That would let you know at least if the problem is there.
But is it worth the trouble? Only you can answer that, maybe you have some use for it eventually.
For me it would of course, it is a BoneTrail after all!!!

I guess it's official IB-E being i7-49xx now, still only on Q3'13. Only a firmware update needed for current platform.

i7-3970X coming soon, with maybe 8c 20MB cache - full config! If this is true it will be awesome. But I think they'll for i7-4990 (rumour still). Confirmed are i7-4930, 4960 and 4970.

    Dear friend manel:

    These news are right:

From the last Intel Presentation :
Ivy Bridge-E/EP die to have 12 cores, not 10?
    full 12 core / 30 MB L3 cache
3.2 GHz inside the 150W TDP
300 GFLOPs in peak DP FP
I hope at least 8 out of 12 cores will be enabled, because the TDP Issues.

    Thanks friend Manel.

With the shrink to the 22nm node the full implementation (within TDP) should be possible, yes.

Finally, legacy seems to be on it's way!
Z87 for Haswell will ditch all legacy ports, even PCI. All SATA6G ports as well, no more 3G.
    Great news, about time too.
