From Intel a new Extreme Series board, the DP67BG Burrage shown at IDF. Still PCIe 2.0, no USB 3.0 (as predicted) integrated onto P67 but with the help of a NEC/Renesas controller. Fail!! I guess no 6 series for me, if X68 goes the same route.

AMD (sounds funny not saying ATI anymore) released 10.9 Catalyst.
nVidia has great SLI scalling with the new GTS450.
Let's see what performance improvements we get with the new 260 series, were supposed to be released the finals a couple of days ago, but still no show.

I keep visiting our boards download page but to no avail. Not a single update in months, shame on you Intel.
There are at least newer LAN drivers but they haven't updated still.
Not to mention audio drivers that have been completelly forgotten, most recent version is almost 1 1/2 years old. Not even Windows 7 compatible.
Even SmackOver, with Realtek codec, has regular updates.

Hi all,

My account has been approved and I can now post here. While waiting for approval and in the meantime, I replaced the X-38 bonetrail in my wife's machine that I snagged used off e-bay for 102 bucks with my old Asus Maximus formula X-38. I practically stole a Foxconn Blackops x-48 from computer geeks so I gave her my maximus. The x-38 Bonetrail came with an E8200 Wolfdale so I don't feel so bad about what I suspect to be a bad ram channel (channel B) that manifested itself first upon boot-up. I removed channel B stick and it booted right up. I swapped the stick from channel b to a and it booted. It will not boot with any ram in channel B. I place either stick in either slot of channel A and it boots. I can place both sticks in channel A at the same time and it boots but it tells me I'm not running the ram in the best possible mode. Is this a common problem with this board to have a bad ram channel? There is only 1 set of DDR3 ram in the house to test with for now. It is a set of G-skill Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-4GBNQ. Is this memory compatible with this board or does it cause the problem I described? I may have use for the board in the future so solving the memory channel B problem would be nice. Currently the board is on the shelf waiting for some TLC.

First thing I noticed in your sig was the QX9750 ES. Man, that wasn't out, was it? QX9650@3GHz was the last of the Mohicans, apart from the 1600MHz QX9770 and QX9775. Lucky you. I see you only get ESs :-)
Too bad you ditched your BT, still I understand why.
It seems it has a broken channel in fact. Did you try both sockets for channel B? They both produce errors?
This board used to be very picky with mem, with BIOS updates it's much better, but still... it's got the personality of a woman!! Not that it's bad, don't take me wrong!

The mem shouldn't be a problem I'd say, sinc it runs fine in channel A, maybe channel B really is dead. Does it even boot? Or it halts on bootup wit an error?

I guess nVidia must have had problems with their brand new 260 series drivers.
They should have been out 2 weeks ago and still no show.
260.63 are still beta for now, funny they had no driver to go with the GTS450, apart fro the beta of course, if you trust those.
Maybe the new installer, which they have been working on for years now, was not up to the task after all. It's a shame, it looks much better than the old InstallShield, very customizable.

Ya the QX9750 was never released to the public and I'm not sure why. Maybe they were too finicky to be binned that high in quantities high enough to support the demand. Engineering samples are from lots that had some experimental change in the manufacturing process is my understanding. They still work good, but they are not able to be sold because they aren't from the "standard" process. There are a few thousand of X9750's out there though because rather than let them rot, Intel gives them out to their employees.

As for the ram channel, I tried every combo in channel B I can think of. With any ram at all in any channel B slot the board just sits there and turns itself on and off. No beeps. I haven't given up on the board, I just found a deal I couldn't refuse on this foxconn blackops (89 dollars) and my maximus has both channels of DDR2 working so I used it in my wife's machine. She ran with the bonetrail for a couple of weeks tho running 4 gigs in single channel and it was rock stable. The upper HD5770 video card ran a little warm tho due to the tight slot arrangement for double width cards from the 2 PCIE x-16 slots. I cheated the slop in the screw holes to create as much of a gap as I could and ran manual fan control on the upper card at 70% so it stayed pretty cool.

I like the board and was reading this thread long before I won the auction on e-bay for it so I knew who you were. I read many of your posts including your very first one. I would love the chance to tweak that board but need to solve the ram issue first. I do need to pick up a different set of ram for my 775 based media P.C. that I'm in the process of collecting parts for so I'll have a chance to find another compatible set to test with. The problem is that I want the new ram to be 1800 or 2000 because it will be going into this blackops and the 1366 ram in here will be in media P.C. I need to go mATX with the case tho so no bonetrail there in the media PC. The E8200 wolfdale that came with the bonetrail will be executing the instructions so even if the bonetrail has a toasted channel, the purchase wasn't a total waste.

I will check out the list of memory that works and hopefully find something in the list that fits the bill and will work for both testing the bonetrail and overclocking the crap outta this blackops and QX9750. Thanks again for the response!

ESs used to be higher binned chips in the past, now like you say they're test samples I believe. They give them out for reviews and internal personnel I guess.
That must one hell of a crunching monster still. Don't know about TDP though, maybe it still fits the normal envelop.
By now, with the latest BIOS, you should hardly go wrong with any mem brand and model. I had problems with my OCZ kit at first but not anymore. Corsair should be fine as well. I guess anything with Micron or Elpida chips will do just fine.
Maybe you can test the mem before you buy. Not very usual here though.

It's been a while since I posted. I changed my hardware, yet again. I think it's time to add the x58 officially to this thread. Rename it the ** Official ** Intel DX38BT, DX48BT2 & DX58SO Extreme Thread. I don't think I would hold my breath on an x68. I don't think it's in the cards yet. Intel is focusing on the 1156 systems as they cost less. I think adding the x58 discussions would be a great way to extend and keep this forum alive.

I completelly agree with you, and great rig you got there by the way.
The DX58SO now has more focus so it's a good idea.
Regarding new chipsets/boards I wouldn't be so sure. The P67 was already shown by Intel in the form of DP67BG Burrage at IDF, guess the X68 should be ready next year if all goes well.
Most manufacturers already have 1155 P67 boards ready, so the rest should be coming up.

1. Can't tell you how I know, but there is currently no x68 on the roadmap ;-}
2. Be very careful with the 5456 bios upgrade for the DX58SO, it bricked my RAID. I was lucky enough to roll back and recover. RAID Drives showed as FAILED. Has anyone else seen this?

It could be named Intel Extreme Boads or something, and would cover all Intel Extreme series. Not sure if Intel will continue with the Exteme line though.

Well, maybe you got internal info that it was scrapped but it has surfaced some time ago, the so far known specs for X68. I have a roadmap with it even.
Mmaybe the 5456 issue is due to, if I recall correctly, the new RAID BIOS option ROM.

To all DX58SO users,
I have forwarded the info to Intel. I'll let you what happens. For now I would be careful with the choice to upgrade the bios. If you do, make sure you have an old copy on USB or CDROM or know how to initiate a bios recovery.

It seems someone listened to my request. 2011 will be the year of bye bye BIOS for good, news has it that from next year on UEFI will be almost mandatory for everyone, finally.
Say goodbye to long boots and work is being done to an almost instant boot with UEFI. About time I'd say.
Also, after it seems good ol' Intel does provide support for USB 3.0 SuperSpeed in their 6 series chipsets, although they don't spell it out just yet. Also, SATA 6Gbps it seems. It's not being left behind after all, they just didn't want to give USB 3.0 a go if they didn't need to. I guess LightPeak is not ready for mass yet so they have to go with the trend.

Still regarding UEFI, seems Windows 8, or Windows.Next as it might be called, will require UEFI, no more BIOS support, not sure though. I guess this time even MS is serious about it. So, in a year time, or maybe only bginning of 2012, we'll have a whole new, completelly revamped, version of Window, with lot of new stuff, facial recognition for logon and a lot more.

I wonder what happened to 260 nVidia series drivers, anyone knows? They must have bumped into something. Should have been out almost a month ago.

A little, I was more concerned when I had the 48BT2. This machine is plenty fast enough. IDC bumped it a little. Once I got it stable I left it. I may try it again. Have you done anything with yours?

Ya I've got my 940 up to 3.8ghz. (181x21)

1.25 on both the qpi and the ioh
I ran a couple hours prime, and it's been good ever since, crunching, BFBC2.
I think this weekend I will try a 12 hour run at prime for the heck of it.
4.0 dosent seem doable at the moment, need better cooling. I can boot into windows but prime fails within minutes.
It's plenty fast enough so I havn't been working at it like I did with my 975xbx2/q6600 go.
I wanted the bt2, but I ended up getting this board for $150.00 so I went for it.
I'm on the 5614 bios and it works good for me, I don't sleep the board so the lan issue isn't a problem.
I was going to go to the 5456 as I dont have any raid but hey this is working nice so why bother.
