    Best Memory for AMD systems

My head has been spinning trying to figure out what would be the absolute best memory I could buy for my epox 8rda3 board. I have been looking at Kingstons 3500 kit but I can only find it for sale from Kingstons site right now which is more expensive than if Newegg was carrying it. Newegg only has the single RAM which I understand to not be dual channel optimized. I am also looking at Geil Golden dragon memory. Both sets run at 1.5 volts instead of 1.6 which I assume will give them more headroom....sort of like the SE xp1700.

I would like some advice from people that have tested different memory. No opinions please, i'm sure we could start a heated debate here.

Dual channle optimized RAM is pretty much the exact same thing as two RAM sticks that are the same model. And by Kingston 3500 do you mean the HyperX series? I use HyperX and it is a lot better then my Geil PC3500 Platnium.

Sudo, WELCOME TO XTREME!!! it's nice to see more Oregonians on here.

i'd agree with vegetto about dual channel RAM. 2 sticks of good RAM will preform the same as "dual channel optimized RAM," within a margin of error of course.

Good to hear that I can get away without buying the memory in a kit. I still think it would be fun to mess around with the Geil memory. Its less epensive than the Kingston, but kingston is a proven product. I would sort of feel like I was paying for looks with the geil golden dragon..looks like it comes with a fance carrying booklet with certificate and all taht jazz..Only reviews i've seen on it are newegg customers though. Not enough to convince me.
Anyone here mess around with the pc3700 kinston ram?

Off the subject of memory...but I am actually from alaska. Lived there for most of my life. Only been in Oregon a couple years. Definitly easier to work and play with computers down here ;-) so...does that make me an Alaskan or an Oregonian?

    ..oO(Iwould say Alaskan)Oo..

just kidding around though, don't really care.

I am going to order the Kingston. I've only gotten a couple of replies but everything else i've been reading combined with these replies, I can tell that Kingston is going to win the day. I kinda suspected that. As you could tell by my signature, i'm looking forward to crossing the 19k score. 20 would be even better though ofcourse. Tough with all air cooling though and default cooling on the 9500np.

Be aware that Geil and the NF7-s 2.0 don't play well together. I had a pair of GEIL PC3500 with the copper heatspreaders. For the life of me it would not pass 166 no matter what a threw at it. I ram'ed the pair and got back new replacements. To my horror i got a repeat disaster. I thought it was my board so I tried them in my 8RDA+. Again the same problem, no go pass 166

Came to a point I gave the dam ram away, i was so angry.

Just a word of caution, the GEIL will haul ass in a Pentium rig, but not in an AMD.

Oh, btw welcome to EXTREME !!

So what are the recomendations, memory is the only thing I still have to decide on.

Same deal, nf7 v2, xp1700, soon to be cooled by phase change.
    Infinity XP1700 247x9
    2x256Mb PC3500 Mushkin Level II 11-2-2-2-2-13-15
    Phase change in (slow) progress.

With my GeilPC3500 I couldn't do 5-2-2-2 on anything above like 195FSB, but with my HyperX I can get to 223FSB at 4-2-2-2 timings.

Thanks for the welcome Nebulous and felix88.

And about the Geil, thats not the first time i've heard about it have problems with the an amd setup. Just another reason for me to be conservative and stick with kingston, the last thing I want is for my memory to be the bottle neck on an oc session.

No problemo .You can't go wrong with either Kingston HyperX, Corsair XMS or twinmos.

Believe it or not there's another contender in a place you would lease xpect Got a friend out in chicago who bought 2 stick of this ultra PC3500 and was able to get close to 230FSB with it.

I bought the Kingston Hyperx pc3500 2x256 kit from www.accups.com 152 bucks with free fed ex shipping. I had never ordered from them before so I went to http://www.resellerratings.com/ and they have a score of 9.4 so couldn't go wrong there.

I looked at that Ultra memory at tigerdirect and I want to try that memory just for the fun of it. 30 dollar rebate on it right now so only 35 bucks for a 256 stick of pc3500..not bad at all if it will do 230 fsb! Thanks for the link.

I use Kingston HyperX pc3500. It's great quality, has a life time garuntee and provides great overclocks. I was able to get to 230mhz FSB without doing any mods to my motherboard with two 256 sticks

Unless you get an older stock of 3500 it probably isn't bh-5, and if it's not bh-5 it's probably not going to beat your existing bh-5.

    Hi
I am surprised no one has said corsair XMS memory the
matched pairs. Although many great brands have been covered.
