    My Typhoon III Res Experience

I've not actually read Skinnees test on the T3 and have no intention of tbh but just thought i'd add a few of my own personal thoughts on the T3.

I think the over all idea is great and i've always been a fan of bay-reservoirs so one that has a build on pump is even better and makes for a real tidy set-up IMO.

Add to that the fact the compact unit can run dual loop is even more attractive to some as it keeps space and over all cost down as only one D5 is needed though the pay off is that only one colour liquid can be used for both loops which again some may think a small trade off given the cost they could save so that in itself gets my vote.

I did however immediately see a few minor problems which i have brought to the attention of the designer but for what ever reason rather than take these small issues on board and maybe rectify in future he decided to try and defend them which i found strange i must admit so don't hold your breath for any immediate changes.

The first being there is no recess from front to back like on the XSPC Res so that it can slide into most chassis and the only way around that is to snap off the small 5.25 bay tabs and secondly, the securing hols didn't align to any on the ATCs 840 so new holes needed to be drilled which i'm not sure how some would feel about doing that to a £200+ case.

On further inspection i also noticed that although Vincents fitting would screw into the T3 they leaked due to the fact the the T3 is made purposely to fit their own Ghost Fittings with a much larger collar than Vincents - again defended by the designer saying "that recess works to keep the O ring from blowing out when...call it overzealous or inexperienced users over tighten fittings." though id have much rather seen some kind of standard kept in line with other more popular fittings so the choice could be left to the end user rather than having the decision made for us.

One thing that hasn't been picked up on is the back hold down plate which holds the D5 in position i think should be either made from 2 to 3 mm thicker plexi as it hasn't got the strength to apply even pressure on the O ring and i guarantee some will have problems with this as i did on both mine.

Aesthetically, for me personally i find the actual front of the T3 a little busy looking for my liking though that is only my opinion and would of liked to have seen a much more elegant look as they certainly didn't look right in the ZOTAC mod at all and the reason why i opted to make new plexi blanc plates for a much more tidy look in keeping with my particular mod though i do understand new face plates are in the pipeline so although i'm eager to see how they look i still get the impression they won't be to my taste.........but that's just me.

Finally, i can't comment on how the T3 will perform in dual loop using one unit as i opted to go for two individual units so i could run two colour liquid but what i can say is they were both an absolute breeze to fill and bleed even though the case needed up-ending onto its back to do so but it meant every bit of air could be bled from the system so when the fill plug was finally screwed into place and the case was right-sided again there is absolutely no air in the system so no turbulence at all and have been running both on No. 2 setting ever since.

Over all i'm well happy with the final results and performance but i just think it could have been a much easier plug and play solution had a few issues been addressed prior to manufacture.

I just got mine and haven't got a chance to work on the install yet. I do agree with you on the bending of the tabs. Seeing it is being marketed as a beginner res, it would be nice to not make them "mod" there case to install it. i can't comment on the holes lining up on the Cosmos 1000, but will when I get to installing it.

Thanks for putting out your thoughts and I do like that ghost effect of the plexi front panels. Are they easily removable? Could you post a little thing about how you made them and attached them?

edit: also seeing you get a set of fittings with the T3, the recessed holes is kind of a mute point. The only downfall is to take advantage of them, you are restricted to 2 sizes of tubing. Not a big deal for first timers, more for those that want to upgrade to it.

@ millertime359 - both DarthBeavis and Boxgods suggested i paint the fronts to match the mod which i honestly didn't agree with one bit tbh but hey each to their own - painting can hide a multitude of sins but we have a saying here in the UK - you can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear so on this occasion i ended up making bezels for the fronts >>link<<

I find the T3 a little like EK's EK-BAY SPIN Reservoir (sorry Eddy) both wanting to be taken seriously yet both marketed for the kids which i'm sorry i just can't get my head around..........though i do understand everyone's taste is different so won't totally condemn either but for me both are wrong and would look way better and more appealing to the market they are both trying to target with a more elegant / minimalist look.

As for the T3 recessed holes and barbs, honestly it couldn't be further than being a mute point but more so dangerous in terms of busting hardware if the Ghost Fittings aren't used with the T3 as they simply don't fit >> link<<

Thanks for the honest review. I think you found pretty much what most of found such as the fitting and fillport issues. Good read though.

O ok, didn't see the hole there. I guess I could of pharsed that a little better. I know it can be a big deal when trying to use other vendors fittings. The o-ring's popping out shouldn't be an issue with fittings like B P as they are recessed there. This is become an issue though. You seem to have some saying that a recessed hole is better, and some saying a recessed o-ring is better, and the other crowd that doesn't care as long as they work. It's just one more thing that needs to be standardized.

The easiest fix I found was to use a lager diameter o-ring. It is working for me. However, the best would be for manufactures to either adopt a standard (not going to happen) or to make the tap flush, like what XSPC does with their tops. I had the same issue on the Swiftech Micro Res version 2 with the bottom tap. Recessed looks better, but since fittings come with different sized bases, sometimes they do not seat well.

Now that I have it, I understand where the complaints are coming from on getting that masking on the ring off. It isn't that it is hard to get it off. It's hard to find an edge to start it. Once you are able to get a small corner started, it comes off no problem.

Hmmm, i'm just wondering if the horizontal grain on the new face plates is in keeping with the vertical machined grain on the Lian Li chassis

i'd really like to see vendors stick to the 5.25" bay standards... my pinnacle 18 doesnt fit the standard IMO, and neither does lian-li's 5.25" bay caddies for hard disks. thats VERY irritating. Anyway, the T3 doesnt fit well in the mountain mods 5.25" bay slot, neither in the bottom two slots nor the top two slots, without sanding the sides of the T3 down at least for me. my pinnacle 18 is painted, and im guessing that plays a role in both the T3 not fitting well, nor my DVD burner sitting well in the bottom slot.

regardless, im pretty disappointed in the T3's hum supression, or the lack thereof. i even went back to a serial loop with the extra radiator i got and am seeing a smaller temperature difference altogether. another problem was connecting the tubing while working in the case. the mountain mods 5.25" 'caddy' (i guess ill call it) makes it really hard to connect the tubing. i had to jam the hell out of the T3 in order to get it fitted into the MM caddy, just so it was flush with the casing and DVD drive. And by that time i already had tubing setup with all the other components, so that made it extremely hard to tighten the supplied ghost fittings.

i dont really care to get into specifics about the serial vs parrallel thing, but the bottom line is the T3 is a good concept, but falls short of being worthwhile in my circumstances. It seems to be pushing a fair amount of water, just as skinnee's test have shown. in my case, i turned the D5 down a lot to compensate for the rather annoying hum that came from running at a higher setting.
    for the glory of bardob!

That was a bit annoying, fitting the tubing with the ghost fittings, but it is easy to over come. You simply fit your T3 into the barb with the fittings attached. Measure out your tubing and pull you T3 back out. Attach all your tubes back on to the T3 outside the case and then snake it back in for final connections to the blocks.

It does sound like your fitting issue is more to due with the powdercoat than the T3. I do agree that fitting into cases with the tabs was not thought out completely. I also think that the mount holes were a MM or 2 too far forward. That just requires a new hole to be drilled slighty further back to make it fit flush.

I have a UF2O and it is a tight fit in the bottom 2 slots, but not so in the top two slots. I have found this to be an issue with other 5 1/4" devices before, so i think it's just a MM issue with how the powder coating is done. As far as the hum, I do not hear it unless it is set to 5, otherwise on 4 or less it isn't noticeable to me.

The Coolermaster drive latch system doesn't work right on the T3. You have to use screws to secure it instead. The biggest issue is you can only use the screws on the one side.

I found that if you bend the spring tabs out slightly, it helps to hold in the other side of the res a little better.
