My point was that unlike the asus p5k
which has the FSB Strap to Northbridge: That lets you filter which strap base you want to use.266,333,etc.,

As Ace shows in his annotation all straps are selectable from the single Dram Speed control (identical to the IP35-Pro, without the above strap base filter. (266,333, 400)

    Edit:
    @Shalamay
Except vcore which i upped settings were as 4146 9x460

Guys, what about the "settings lost" issue? Did Abit fix that yet with a new beta bios?

I was hopeing to get my ram to around 500fsp, but if its really difficult, I don't hold much luck. I haven't tried yet as I'm happy with what I got at the min. When I have more time I will give pushing up the fsb and see if i can hit 500.

Do you think getting 1GBx4 (4GB) running at that speed will be possible with a few bios updates? Getting a Q9450 in Jan.

EDIT: 500 is so I can hit 4Ghz on the Q9450 (has 8 multi)

No. Powering down the PC and disconnecting it from mains still wipes the bios...
So does changing ram or disconnecting a SATA lead 0.o

The CMOS battery needs changing, or a complete forced BIOS reflash might help. Otherwise that looks like a reason to RMA in my book........

Okay... so not everybody has that problem - interesting. Maybe PSU related? What are you two using, respectively?

I have a Seasonic 700W PSU, the only problems I have had with the board is it's refusal to post with my OCZ memory. I shall know soon if the ram is faulty or not.....

    Yep, mine does too.

Mickey Padge, perhaps you have something set in the bios different ??

Can you take pics of each bios screen so we can see.

It is really annoying and would definately like it solving too

    Sure OK

I have an E6850 using only one 1GB stick of Geil HZ memory.

I am running stock, but with voltages boosted anyway, it is a mates memory and I want to give it back in one piece

I hope to have some new RAM on Tuesday. If the OCZ is faulty or not, I will need some either way

lol, now it's 2:2. Seems to me like a 50/50 chance whether the boards keeps its settings or not... strange.

no loss of settings here. btw turning off C1E & EIST allowed me to up the fsb with the lower multi's thanks.. Is it the general accepted belief that it seems to take alittle more volts compaired to other x38 and p35 booards for same OC?

btw.. bios 12 beta up and running.

1:1 is the easiest for overclocking...i say start with that to find out your highest overclock...after finding that mhz, then explore the other straps.

No loss of BIOS settings here - just sometimes get an extra beep when first powering on? and beep before 'hit Del' doesn't always sound.

Correct also, maximising CPU speed will give you most power, being able to speed up ram using a strap is good for benches, but is bling, not adding that much more in real world performance.

I thought that initially but no longer by tweaking VTT i'm now finding i'm using the same or less. That's particularly true when running a lower multi. On previous builds i've always found that an 8x450 took slightly more vcore than 9x400 for example.
I managed 8x450 with 1.40v. My 9x400 was at 1.4225v Now I know i may have over egged the vcore on 9x400 given the 8x450 result, so may rerun it when i get chance.

    My Gigabute x38 & p5k managed 9x400 @1.40v vcore but both needed >1.4v for 8x450.

Pretty much the same as any Micron D9 memory chips i would think, shouldn't be a problem. Memory clocking isn't that great yet, but with a more mature bios shouldn't be an issue.

More info on the "not saving BIOS settings when power cord out of PSU".

After some testing I have figured out that it ONLY looses my overclock settings and sets them to default.

Every other setting it remembers e.g. disabling C1E and EIST.

Must need to enable something to keep the overclock settings.

Strange thing is that it remembers my RAM timings but not the voltage. I reverts back to default rather than keeping 2.1v.

I'll mess around some more tomorrow.

Another thing is uGuru in windows looses its settings when the power cord is pulled :/.

I have to manually click on default for everything to get it to monitor anything.

Danger your exactly right same here no loss of ram setting etc. Just OC settings Guru does the same thing, loss of settings. the first time i unplugged it didn't but that was like less then 10 minutes, second it was like 3 hours and then it lost the OC setting. I was at 2.90Ghz must have mistaken looking at 2.00Ghz on the restart.

seems my board likes 8x375 with 1.45v volts more then it does 10x300 at 1.5v. I've learned so much about this generation of OCing in the last few days its crazy!

one question guru will show a slightly higher volt reading then what i have selected in bios like i'll have 1.45 and it will show 1.47 in guru. pretty much the norm for everyone?

Yep the Idle Vcore is a little higher than that selected in bios. That's supported by Multimeter readings

Ok, IX38 ordered - will have it here by Wednesday I suppose... will test Q6600 G0 OCing with 4x1GB D9GMH (Crucial Ballistix are quite popular atm, small wonder considering ther current cost/performance ratio). I hope it fits the IFX-14
